Trek belongs to a unique race of dragons thought to have died out long ago. What made them so unique was their body's ability to store, regulate, control and expel heat.
Because of their unique biological design, Trek's species were perfectly suited to one particularly specialised and sought-after profession.
Blacksmithing.

Not just ordinary blacksmiths, Trek's race were the only known travelling blacksmiths.
Their heat-manipulating abilities not only allowed them to produce superior results, but it also negated the need for a forge, something which doesn't exactly lend itself to travelling.
As such, their unrivaled skill with their craft and incomparable versatility made them highly sought-after, and business was incredibly lucrative.

But such success is always bound to attract jealous competition.
In fact, it is rumored that, perhaps, it was rivalry that led to the disappearance of many of the "travelling smiths" that used to frequent the volcanic wastes.
