I am Dimitri's elder brother, Alexei. I left home years ago in order to forge a magical ocarina like our father's--like the one which Dimitri clings to like an asthmatic with an inhaler--in order to control the beast within me. However, in my search I learned that there was more to this curse than rage and hunger. I learned that by indulging the beast's desires--becoming a part of it--I could gain control over my other form...and then, another breakthrough. There was no difference between me and him, no separation. He was me, and I was him.

This, I had to share with my brothers...this freedom...but they would not accept my gift. Yugo found another way, I suppose. By getting the beast within him to accept him as his master, Yugo was able to achieve a power similar to my own...but with fire. (How he got that, I still have no idea.) Dimitri, though, still clings to the suppressive powers of the ocarina. He will not face his true self. All he does is run away.

I tried to help him, many times, but he only fought me. He hid behind his ocarina and his friends. He shunned me and turned away from the truth. Finally, during one battle, he slipped and fell from the roof of the Blue Building. I couldn't let him die. I dove after him, but I lost my footing as well, just as I had grabbed his hand. Now, I believed, we would die together. It was almost poetic in a messed up, tragic sort of way--the supposedly villainous sibling dieing in a futile attempt at saving the life of his stupidly heroic baby brother. By mid-fall, we had had a strange sort of heart-to-heart and reconciled our differences. We were both prepared to die, and then...a net?

We hit it and bounced, then landed again, safe and alive. We looked down, and there was a web of light and shadows spread out beneath us. Around us, at the four corners of this web, were that meddlesome light mage Ulfengi, the dark mage Isaac_Slade, the half-vampire dowser Vexsis, and that annoying witch Rhally. They had combined their magic to save him.

After this, I tried to take my leave, but Dimitri stopped me, grabbed me by the sleeve of my jacket and begged me to come home with him. There were tears in his eyes...he had always been the crybaby out of us three. At any other time, it would have been easy to decline, but...after that fall, that conversation? How could I say no? Besides, it will be much easier to help my brother now that we once again share a home--maybe not in the same way that I helped myself, though. Maybe...maybe my role is simply to help him find his way.
