Nikkalu is named for Nikkal, the Canaanite/Ugaritic goddess of orchards and fruits.

Decked in strands of lapis lazuli, Nikkalu tends her gardens - the orchards and vegetables under the light of Shapash, and a little clearing full of night-blooming plants awakened beneath the loving gaze of Yarikh. She sings the fruits into harvest and kisses her tomato plants, anoints trees with olive oil and honey, whistles skyward to ask Ba'al Hadad for rain after Yarikh's dew has dried.

And at each plant, each new shoot, she smiles: "Yishlam le-Nikkalu!"
