Rusted was once a proud war machine tasked with protecting the citizenry of the country. She had been beautiful then - a gleaming construct of polished armor and futuristic weaponry. But then the bombings came. City after city fell despite the efforts made by herself and her fellow machines to push the enemy back. Within a hundred years the humans of the country had all but disappeared. The robots continued to do as they had been programmed even in the absence of their creators, relentlessly patrolling empty, ruined streets in the centuries that followed. With no-one to perform maintenance and general upkeep the weaker robots eventually ceased to function, leaving the desolate landscape to the sturdier built models. Models such as Rusted.

Three hundred years after the disappearance of Man, Rusted has been reduced to a shadow of her former self. All that remains of her brilliant paintjob are a few blotches of crimson paint; her armor is dented, scratched, rusted. The large cannons that once rested on her shoulders are gone. Glitches in her programming have turned her into a savage beast, endlessly roaming from abandoned settlement to abandoned settlement in a search for that which she needs to remain functional: fuel, energy, spare parts. Sometimes she finds live power stations that she can drain electricity from. Sometimes she scavenges parts she needs from vehicles left in garages or on the streets. Sometimes she encounters other war machines - and preys on them. They are often brimming with compatible parts and energy resources that she can use to fortify herself and recharge her cores with, and she doesn't hesitate to take them on.

There is no room for friendship among living weapons, after all.
