Abused by his alcoholic father in the years following his mother's death, Tora ran away from home at seventeen, escaping into the forest close to his house. There he was attacked by one terrifying creature and rescued by another, the serpent Kuzaku. What followed was three years of learning and exploration... Kuzaku taught him all about the earth and how to live on his own in the wilderness, and Tora made friends with shadows and discovered that passion comes in many forms.
Near the end of their time together, Kuzaku suggested that Tora completely cast away the last tenuous ties to his old life and choose a new name for himself, and so the boy Tora became the man Hisaka.
One day rumors began to circulate in the small town of Sargenti that there was a man living in the forest. He was covered in tattoos and didn't wear many clothes, but he could use plants to cure many ailments and physical complaints. No one knew where he'd come from, but he became quite valuable to the townspeople. And if he was a little eccentric... well, so be it.
