Coconut would bare his teeth at you, but he means no harm. He is smiling, and he does that to people he likes. He can't see you, he wouldn't know your face, but with time, he would know your smell. He hated cigarettes, it reminded him of his old home, where his owner wasn't able to realize he was different, and needed different care. He loved naps, and eventually we would get in a routine of napping together during the day, arms wrapped around him, and slept peacefully. I would never know that kind of serenity again, resting with a beloved pet and him completely trusting me. In too short of time, this pattern would break, and he would no longer know his own smell.

Coconut was diagnosed with a herpes disorder in his brain, which affected his vision and how he processed the world. His eyes were galactic with cataracts, but it never brought him pain. Only his seizures, which happened often, but he took his meds in peanut butter sandwiches; he learned the sound of the jar opening and would come prancing in, snapping his jaws with joy.

I miss his little prance. I miss his galaxy eyes that followed my voice. I miss him ripping up grass at the roots and tossing it to the side like a disgruntled goat. I miss our naps. I miss my child. I miss you, Coconut. I hope you are having fun with Jack and Gibbs.
