The storm was bad and the cabin was cold. A cold that made everything else seem silent and sent shivers down your back and made your face pale and made your body numb. The one of the two woodcutters, Minokichi, shifted in his bed, waking up from the severe drop of temperature to the sight of a beautiful lady with white clothes over his bed.She was staring intently, ice blue eyes piercing cold into his spine.Minokichi jerked back in his bed away from her.He looked over at his father’s bed, seeing the man pale as a corpse, covered in frost and frozen to death.“I thought I was going to kill you,” The woman then spoke, snapping Minokichi’s attention back to her, “the same as the old man, but I will not, because you are young and beautiful.” Minokichi was greatly relieved, the woman taking a step back from his bed. “You must not tell anyone about this incident.” She then breathed, the room growing colder. “If you tell anyone about me, I will kill you.”And like a cold winter breeze, she was gone.----It wasn’t until several years later, Minokichi met a beautiful young lady, named Oyuki like the woman from his dreams, and married her. She was a good wife and together, the two of them had several children, living happily for many years.But as these years past, Minokichi grew to notice, that, mysteriously, she did not age.It was a cold winter night, and the children were all asleep. Minokichi turned to Oyuki and looked her in her ice blue eyes, and he said: “Whenever I see you, I am reminded of a mysterious incident that happened to me.” He grabbed her hand and held it. “When I was young, I met a beautiful young lady like you.” He let go of her hand. He looked distressed. “I do not know if it was a dream or if she was a Yuki-onna…” After finishing, Oyuki stared at him, before she suddenly stood up, chair screeching back with a rumbling screech of its legs against the floor that sent shivers up one’s back.And she glared at him.“That woman you met was me!” She yelled at him.Minokichi was dumbstruck.“I told you that I would kill you if you ever told anyone about that incident.” She sighed, the room growing colder as she turned away. “However, I can’t kill you,” she said, “because of our children.” She looked at him again. “Take care of our children…”And with that, she crackled into ice and melted away.And she was gone, leaving Minokichi alone as the cold air seeped into his bones.And he wanted her back.
