There are many unexplored parts of the sea and in each one you'll find his kind, but of these there are few and far between.

Endre's fate was decided for him the instant he was born. For his kind the males are born with the ability to emanate light and therefore the only ones that can guide and pass the light to those of the deep, but only for a short time. Every few days those that dwell in the deep must pass once again by him to receive the light once more.

The stories passed down to him paint a cruel tale of mischievous gods toying with the lives of others. It speaks of the gods creating his kind with strength and power, but once they become aware of their ability to better themselves, felt the only way to ensure their divinity was by cursing the most powerful of their species.

Both sexes were bestowed with the ability of light and freely shared that knowledge to whomever wanted it. Because of this the light reached the heavens and as the gods looked down at their brightness, they feared that they too would shine as brightly as they and so cursed them they did and changed them as creatures to live where the light would not reach them.

Only two of these gods spared them any sort of pity and instead of stripping them entirely of what they were decided to leave the light in them, but only to the males. The beauty that the two sexes shared was now in one and slowly the light that had once been taken for granted brightening their world before was more precious than they ever realized. The men were doubly affect, not only would they keep the light now denied on their women, but in order to keep that light they must keep their virtue or lose the light. That is why it's forbidden for the males of his line to love and why in their society they kept silent to the fact that once they hit maturity, if they were not in their human form once the sun set, they would forever remain in their animal form.

Such a twisted fate the gods played. Between every century a handful of males would be born with such a gift, but it was a rare occurrence and so those born with the glow were known as The Light Keepers. They were taught at an early age that they served no other purpose, but to guide and pass the light to those of the deep.

Endre hadn't known of that twist of fate until it was too late, he'd been down guiding and passing the light when he realized he was no longer able to change at will.

As he grew to adulthood he meet Aribella. He thought once he was of old age and new Light Keepers were born he'd be able to finally reunite with Aribella, but that choice was taken from him. Now he spends his days in solitude, alone, cursing the gods for their cruelty and denying him his true love.
