“WHO FILLED MY GOURD WITH SUGAR?”

The screech could be heard throughout the Kazekage's headquarters. Temari immediately looked to their guest, Naruto, over the breakfast table and scowled. Naruto tried to look at innocent as possible but he couldn't hold back his grin.

Then the Kazekage himself, Gaara, stomped into the room. He had candy glued all over his clothes and his anger was immediately directed at Naruto. He walked right over to him and dragged him from his chair, lifting him up with his own strength, his fingers around his throat. Naruto was caught off guard and frightened. He hadn't seen Gaara this angry since the Chunin exams.

Temari slapped her hand to her face. It was a bad idea to push Gaara's buttons. “Gaara?” she tried cautiously, standing up and approaching him with her palms out. “Remember those breathing exercises?”

“*@$% breathing exercises!” Gaara shouted, pushing Naruto against the wall. “You did this, didn't you?”

“M-me?” Naruto stuttered out. “No way! Though, if I had done it, it would be a pretty clever visual pun on the fact that you live in a deser-” Naruto was cut off as Gaara wrapped his fingers around Naruto's throat even tighter.

Temari knew she had to do something before he killed their guest and further severed relationships between Naruto's village and theirs.

“Gaara, remember what happened the last time we killed a guest?” Temari pleaded, getting close but not too close.

Gaara didn't even seem to be listening. He was completely focused on choking out Naruto.

Naruto himself had his fingers on Gaara's, choking as he tried to pry the fingers off. He was starting to lose consciousness. His eyes landed on a piece of licorice on Gaara's chest. His mind was muddled. He reached forward, tore it off, and shoved it into Gaara's mouth, hoping he would choke on it.

Gaara's eyes went wide as the candy was pressed into the inside of his mouth. At first he looked like he was going to spit it out but instead he began to chew slowly. He let go of Naruto, taking a step back, looking thoughtful. Naruto crumpled onto the floor, wheezing for breath.

Gaara swallowed the candy and turned to Naruto, picking him back up by the collar. Naruto's relief instantly turned to fright.

“What do you call this stuff?” he asked Naruto, his eyes narrowed.

“C-candy” Naruto squeaked out.

Gaara let go of Naruto and turned to Temari. “Tell my adviser to order more of this 'candy'.

Temari gaped at him before closing her mouth and swallowing. “Okay.” She gave Naruto a glance before leaving the room, wondering what exactly had just happened.
