Smoke poured out of the old, ragged tavern. Filled from roof to floor with a rowdy crowd, it was the type of place that not all men left in one piece. Yet here Maddy was again, drinking from a bottle of port ale and scanning the crowd for her next beverage purchaser. No matter how far she took her boat from Port de Sol, she always ended up back in this exact Tavern. She could still remember her days as a young Woman with wild dreams of exploration and discovery. Now she was happy just to get away from her crew.

She was already starting to feel a buzz from that first drink, a light, pleasant warmth filling her chest. She waved to the bartender and tossed him a finely carved wooden coin. "Fill me up," she ordered, intending to get a little bit crazy tonight. It was then that she heard a voice coming from over her shoulder.

"Still drinking at your age? I'm surprised you haven't up and died already you old bat."

Maddy recognized the voice and turned to him, his lips curving into a tight smirk. "Well isn't it a coincidence to see you here?"

The half-man half-retriever standing behind her let out a loud, bark of a laugh and sat next to her, his tail wagging. "A coincidence indeed, old friend." He reached out for the beer and took it in his hand. "You know if you took better care of yourself, you'd probably live longer," he told her, taking a sip from the bottle.

It was Maddies turn to laugh. "You know I don't believe that," she said, taking the bottle back from him. "Life's a gamble. One could spend their entire life tending to rice, but if their field dries up before the next monsoon, it won't matter how large their rice field is. They're still gonna starve."

Blah blah blah, i'll finish this story later.
