At the highest point of an old imperial observatory, Maculosus keeps watch over movements most would never think to measure. His charts span generations, his instruments are calibrated with impossible precision, and his predictions are rarely explained.
Kings once climbed the observatory stairs seeking knowledge of wars, harvests and dynasties. Maculosus offered measurements, calculations and carefully annotated charts.
Whether he ever gave anyone a direct answer remains disputed.
Maculosus insists the great instrument he carries is not a weapon.
It is used for taking measurements.
When asked what, precisely, it measures, he invariably changes the subject.
Most objects within the Astrarium record ordinary celestial movements. A small number remain under restricted observation because they appear to record movements of things that should not exist in the sky at all.
