Bonjour Lovely! Welcome to my cafè.

This cafè has been in my family since the 1950's. You can see my son Phor, the barista today. I see you found us just off the main road across the Seine from the Cathédrale Notre-Dame! This tiny street, the Rue de la Bûcherie, is close enough for some tourist trade, but mostly it's those who are looking beyond the large noisy cafès on the main roads. People from around the country, and around the world! who come to see Paris and Notre-Dame. We've had people from Australia, and Canada, Germany, South Africa, New Zealand, Scotland, and the USA - and all these in just the last week or so! So many people telling so many interesting stories.

We had the man who showed us his prosthetic leg. He was retired from his military in the USA, and thankfully his family could help him travel. Such a sad story. His tears welling up when he mentioned the friends he had lost the same time as his leg.

There was the lovely young girl from New Zealand who looked so sad. We found out it had been her mothers dream to see Paris, but she had not made it past the cancer. So her daughter was travelling for her, in her memory. She looked a bit happier when I said I was sure her Mama was with her and so happy she was travelling. My goodness, her smile lit up the whole place!

There is often the young couple who tumble in, laughing. Their shiny new rings on their left hand proclaiming their love and their story as they stare into each others eyes. Sometimes they look around enough to realise where they are, and can chat and laugh with us. They always bring such love and happiness.

There was the happy Australian who was finally travelling after working for years to save for the holiday. She'd been married then widowed young, had been a single Mother, and now her children had lives of their own. Most Australians who visit are in their 20's and energetic, but this lady spent several hours there chatting with me, one maman to another. Amazing how alike children are the world over.

Just last week we had an amusing little couple from England, who were very nice, for a change. Never doubt that the Français and Anglaise are still in a quiet war, mon ami. They had gotten lost the day before because they had not realised that Métropolitain signs simply meant that it is the public transit station, not a name of a specific station. They had left their English car near one station but did not know which one! I found the story hilarious.

Another young pair of friends from Germany came in the other day. They'd only had a couple of days in Paris, but apparently this was an 'extra day' due to the strikes at the airport! I had heard something about the handlers walking out the night before, but the garçons did not seem unhappy to extend their stay in our lovely city.

So if you are ever in beautiful Paris, come and visit me, Angelica. The locals call me the Ang de la Bûcherie so they can get extra cake! Laughs It means "Angel of the Woodshed" in English. An interesting history.
