Profile
A night sky star.
Lover of Abiela.
Quiet, obedient.
He was a star. A speck among many. But he had purpose, of course. If it were only him, imagine how dim the sky would be. There had to be many. It made the nights brighter.
Turning, turning, slowly, always. Occasionally running into another. But it was rare. So rare. Sometimes he would have to maneuver slightly around another, but mostly he just turned, around and around, slowly. Some stars clung to other stars. That didn't happen much. It was only if the other star they encountered was extra special. Clinging isn't what stars do.
Then she was there. A star, too. Smaller, but just as bright somehow. She was more active than any star he'd seen, doing somersaults through the sky. She reached out a hand when she neared him. He hesitated. She wasn't like the other stars. He didn't know if he wanted to join her. He shook his head, backing away slowly. She somersaulted around him, twisting about in bright streaks of light.
Stars don't speak. It's not in their nature. But as she swept by him, she whispered, “Come with me. We don't have to be the same as them."
He looked around at the vastness surrounding them. The nearest stars staring curiously at the somersaulting star, and at him, in such close proximity to such an odd ball of light. Then she stopped. There in front of him, her eyes, a bright blue, her dress flowing around her, her hair a braid of silky pink.
Eyes still locked with his, she reached her hand out. And this time he took it. Holding tightly to his hand, she threw herself into a somersault, bringing him with her, the speed frightening him at first. She grabbed his other hand and then began to twirl in a dance of sorts, closer and closer until they were one much bigger beam of light, being so near to each other.
He felt something in his chest, a flutter, or something like it. Looking at her, he felt it again. Fear made him release her, but it was much too quickly, and she was pushed away from him. She tried to stop the speed of it, but being pushed through space, even for stars, is a hard thing to halt. So away she went, and he in the other direction. Too late he realized that she would no longer be there to twirl around him, and as he sped through the sky in the wrong direction, away from this somersaulting light, his heart fell to pieces.
He didn't know yet, of course, but in a great number of years they would find each other again. A lot of years, to some, but to stars, time is endless.
