Gold is her treasure, and gold is her heart; don't let appearances fool you.Although she may look fierce, Yuanzhi is a big softy. She was born through the power of magic, and as such, she is destined to be a Finder and Collector of Magical Items and Artifacts. There are only a few other magic-born dragons, and they too search the land for the prettiest, shiniest, and most powerful objects to add to their hoards.Although many flee from her as she swoops down to grab a gem or a gold trinket, in truth, she would not hurt them. She collects these items only because they help her on her way toward becoming a full Dragon Mage, not because she wishes to harm anyone.
As a newborn magic-dragon, she came into the world with a small amount of ready magic. Now, as she grows, she has to learn more to become a Dragon Mage, and the knowledge she needs comes from the power of the trinkets she collects. So, in truth, although she may seem intimidating and cruel, she is really only seeking knowledge.The wind rustled through the feathers in her wings, as she circled through the skies. Yuanzhi could feel the magic of the area in her bones.Like all other magic-born dragons, Yuanzhi was destined to search the world, skies, and seas for magical artifacts. It was a drive that seemed innate, as if she had no choice but to respond to it with action.There wasn't a specific purpose to this desire. Instead, magic-born dragons simply liked to collect the most powerful, shiny objects for their own collections. To have a large hoard of magical objects was a symbol of greatness, and it often brought its keeper respect.And there was another reason to collect magic. Though she was magic-born, she didn't have great reserves of magic within herself. In order to train under the powerful Dragon Mages, she would need to collect magical relics that could lend her their power.Today, shortly after her afternoon nap, Yuanzhi had felt some magical object calling out to her. It was a faint hum, at first, but as she closed in on the location, she could hear its cries more clearly.Magic doesn't call aloud with verbal messages, though. Instead, it sends out a signal that can be heard by those who are listening for it. Everyone else, like the humans that also roamed the planet, was completely oblivious to magic's messages.Narrowing her eyes, Yuanzhi could see a brush of movement in the forest below her, followed by the blinding sun on shiny scales. Another dragon was after her magic!The best course of action would be to find it first. She closed her eyes, and calmed herself as best as she could. Where was it?She listened to the signal it was sending out, and it definitely seemed muffled. With that information, Yuanzhi swooped lower. Even being as close to it as she was, it was hard to make out precisely what the magic was trying to communicate, which meant it was probably buried or hidden.She landed softly, her great, sharp talons creating small divots in the earth. As quietly as possible, lest she attract the attention of the other magic hunter, she listened closely to the soil and the trees.The efforts paid off. Due to her meticulous search, she knew instantly when she came across the object. It had been hidden inside a medium-sized boulder, which would require her to break it open later. For now, as she hadn't seen the other hunter in a while, she thought it best to simply carry the entire boulder back to her hideout.She rose back into the air, slowly and with great effort, given the weight of the boulder she carried. After flying a short distance, she heard a roar, and inwardly cringed. Great, the other dragon had spotted her, and would attempt to fight for rights to the magical object.Though she had sharp talons and teeth and tough scales for defense, Yuanzhi rather disliked fighting. She had no desire to cause harm to anyone, but sometimes, she had no choice. She glanced around, and saw the dragon attempting to charge her from below.Well, he was asking for it.She dropped the boulder, and heard a strangled cry of surprise, as the boulder split open, and the dragon fell to the earth.As she was the smaller of the two, she was able to fly down easily and snatch up the object in her claws before the other had regained control of his senses. He attempted to follow her for a while, but without the weight of the boulder, she was able to fly much faster than he could.Back at her cave, Yuanzhi inspected the object more carefully. It was green and shone with a magical brilliance. Without the boulder impeding its message, Yuanzhi could hear its name clearly.
