Ross is a narcoleptic. Narcolepsy is a disorder where the sufferer experiences daily fatigue, and may fall asleep at random times (driving a car, at school, etc.). Because narcoleptics may sleep during the day, their night-time sleep is disturbed, and even resembles insomnia at times. Ross also has cataplexy, which is a disorder that often accompanies narcolepsy. Cataplexy is sudden muscle weakness brought on by intense emotions. Cataplexy can result in slurred speech, blurred vision, inability to concentrate, and general muscle weakness (being unable to lift things, knee buckling, etc.).
