Mephostophilis doesn't know where his lust for power began, he just knows that it is the most important thing to him. Maybe it was when he was born and he has always been this way. Maybe it was when he was zapped into his current form and he was mutated to be this way. Whatever the case, it doesn't matter to him now.

Once he started his quest for power he became utterly devoted to it. He learned how to fight from the best fighters. He mastered nearly every weapon but a few. Those he can't fight with, he knows how to defend himself against. His tail becomes his weapon if he finds himself weaponless. Mephostophilis has pretended to be defenseless without a weapon to very young and kind fighters. That was the last mistake those poor creatures ever made.

Mephostophilis has also mastered numerous spells. Mainly in the dark arts. He finds those particular spells useful to his cause. The ones he wishes to conquer usually don't understand them. They are spells that no good Subetan would use, after all, and so only the scholars are aware of them. He has gone to dark places to get them and learn how to use them.

Just because he is assured of his own power, he isn't so vain as to think he can gain what he wants alone. Mephostophilis constantly seeks worthy followers. He picks those that would help him and are more than good at their arts. Some join because they admire him while others join just because they are curious. All his followers have this in common: they will never betray him.
