In the first was a sizable chunk of her wardrobe and a sleeping bag. The second held a hand-carved train her father had bought for her when she was a little girl. He had always loved trains, though she felt she could easily do without them. What were trains compared to cars, buses and planes? But over the years, her father had enthralled her with story after story of how amazing trains were. The wooden train had been the first of many train models she collected over the years. His death had been what prompted her to move away from her home town and the memories it held.

Beneath the train, wrapped carefully in tissue paper, was her hookah. Maybe she could duck out of the meet-and-greet later to better calm her nerves, just in case the tea didn't last.

Further down in the box were two books. The first was filled with pressed flowers. She loved to flip through the book, especially in winter. It took her mind away from the chill and brought it back to the days of spring and summer when everything was green. She would imagine herself sitting under tall trees and napping in grassy fields, the sun shining down on her. It hadn't been pure luck that her new apartment was so close to a large park. Thoughts of racing around barefoot filled her mind.

The second book was a well-worn copy of The Journey of Vina. It was her favorite book and she'd read it no less than fifty times. The takes of the adventurous Vina and her kick-ass attitude never failed to excite Adelai. Her daring sword fights and narrow escapes from dangerous traps were the best things she had ever read.

The kettle began to shriek in the kitchen and Adelai hurried to turn off the burner. She dropped a scoop of tea leaves into a cup and poured the hot water over it. Smells of pomegranate wafted up out of the cup. It only took a few sips to completely calm her. It was just in time too.

Flora barked at the door a second before there was a loud knock. Adelai opened it to find a young man standing there, holding a potted plant.

"Hi! Welcome to the building. I'm Matt."

"Hi, my name's Adelai."
