The Haunt of the Misty Harbor

Randolph Desmond Jack, born in the winter of 1831, is a decent, downtrodden fellow with an unfortunate nagging appetite for human flesh, a gruesome curse courtesy a scorned witch. He drowns himself in ale and other spirits to stave off the horrible cravings, but between feedings, he descends into madness; eventually, ale is not enough.

He holds out for one or two months before his mind is weaker than the hunger. Then he hunts, indiscriminately: friends, lovers, strangers, children... remembering each with such stark clarity he thought it must be part of the curse. No clue is ever discovered of the missing persons or their fate; even in lunacy he is an especially crafty, elusive killer. His regained lucidity upon feeding allows him to fully realize the sickening remorse for a moment, before the ale kicks in again.
