Kakashi waited silently in the bright light. He was good at hiding in plain sight. Shinobis, or ninjas, often were hidden in the most obvious places. Yet, he knew no one would look for him where he sat. His current mission was to assassinate a suspected spy. Normally assassinations were considered important and dangerous missions but this one would be quite easy. On most assassinations there would be a great deal of danger and of course there would be help. This time however, he was alone. Generally for someone important enough to assassinate there were guards, followers, or friends who were willing to help them out and who would pose a threat to the assassin.
The man Kakashi was sent to assassinate however was no ninja, he was an arms dealer. He'd been taking information to whoever bid the highest for it. Information like how many weapons he'd sold, what kind of weapons he'd sold, and how fast he was supposed to be getting them to whoever he'd been betraying. This made him very dangerous, able to give away timing, position, numbers, and how the other side would best defend themselves. He needed to be taken care of. It also made him very rich. He made money from selling the weapons and from selling the information. Being so rich and doing very little physical work had made him fat.
Kakashi had to learn about the man before he came alone to kill him. Surely a man that rich could afford guards, but there was one thing he did that made him vulnerable to attack. Every day after a very large breakfast he would come out into a garden surrounded by hedges and meditate. The garden was not visible from his house and he always ordered that no guards follow him out. He would then sit there in near silence, apart from his own labored breathing, and meditate for hours.
The bright morning sun was beating down on Kakashi for nearly an hour when he decided to go check on things. He could see the man eating still, and saw that he'd just had another course of food brought out. This was not a problem for Kakashi, who had already moved silently back to his hiding spot. The more the man ate the more sluggish and unobservant he would be. Kakashi really didn't like waiting though. He looked up at the sky. There wasn't a cloud in sight to block the sun. It was bright which made him easier to be seen, he didn't mind that so much though. He was very good at laying in wait for people.
As the time seemed to drag on he realized he'd brought something with him in his bag to pass the time. He pulled out a book, opened it slowly, and sat back. The book was labeled “Icha Icha Pooltime" and there were pictures of women in the book to go along with the steamy stories. The shapes of their bodies flowed like water in a stream and he grinned as he looked at the women, chuckling at the unlikely scenarios. He stifled a laugh at the thought of what he'd do and say in the situations written and illustrated in his book - probably pull out a kunai on suspicion of being seduced by an enemy.
The sound of footfalls landing on twigs brought him back to reality. His target was closer than he realized. He dropped the magazine, which landed with a thud. The fat man didn't even look up. He sat down and a ripple went over his large body. He drew a deep breath, and never let it out again. There was no scream, no blood, no fear. Kakashi was very quick and quite an expert. He closed his eyes and listened for a moment, to make sure he wasn't being secretly watched and followed. After a few moments of this he ran off, not following a trail that led into a small wooded area. He didn't want to be easily tracked.
He was running and his bag was swinging wildly back and forth. It brushed against his legs and he realized it felt very light. With a rush of panic he realized he'd left his book back in the garden. That was his last book and he wouldn't get another one for another couple of months. He couldn't go two months without his book. He didn't think there'd be much risk in going back. His target was often alone for hours and his guards wouldn't come looking for him until the next mealtime. He ran back and, with a quick glance around, picked up his book again. He had to keep up his image after all.
