"Breath of Air"

You could be a giant
You could be a child
I'm buried in the ground
And I never cry
Don't say you love me
Don't say you care
I'm not human
We will never be the same

You can carry on, like that
I will give you love, I've got
I'm not the woman looking for
Roses never, never,
Roses never, never, fall in love

~Never Fall In Love
Emilie Simon

Seset was once a Princess of a grand city in the desert. Many times she would walk among her people as a peasant, and on one of these trips she came across a small white snake dieing in the sands. She brought him home and cared for it, until it was well enough to travel at her side. It became attached to her and seemed to follow her everywhere.
One day though, her palace was stormed by the very peasants she had come to be a part of, and she was tossed to the sands- to find that her snake had been the very reason for this betrayal. She ran, discarding her beautiful dresses to the sands so that she may escape the death that chased behind her. But she did not know the lands, and the sand dunes shifted and her path turned to circles. Finally the heat consumed her, and she fell, the hot sand feeling like a final comfort, and soon a distant memory as she drifted off. She did not mind this death, the death her people wished upon her- they wished it and they would have it.
And then, coolness... and stale air. She awoke to find herself in a dark and dank tomb, laying upon what should of been some other soul's final resting place. As her eyes adjusted to the dark light around her, she came to see a sight that made her heart skip a small beat- a large mummified creature stood before her, watching her with soft eyes that looked though as if they had seen more then their time had called for. He stood there, his breathing filling the darkness with rasps of old muscles. For a moment Seset did not know what to do, but as she watched him she could feel her soul calm. Something about him was comforting, gentle. She stood and smiled, her head bowed to the one who had saved her very life.
These two talked, for she had no home now- and he allowed her to stay within his tomb. They grew close, the creature was kind- and very interesting to her. His name was said to be Sarcophagus, and he cared for her and showed her the ways of living in the desert. Though every so often, he would sneak away in the night and be gone for days. Seset would worry, but always he would return- battered and in need of new wraps. She would care for him just as he had for her, her hands a comforting softness against his old rough skin.
One night, Seset could no longer stand sitting alone in the dank tomb, waiting and praying to the Gods that Sarcophagus would return again- so she followed him. That was when she learned who he really was.
A necromancer named Lady Foxbat had found him ages ago, and brought his soul back to his body- she held his very life in her hands at all times. She was a nasty dark soul, and she had many deeds to be done that she herself would refuse to do- and those are the terrible things she had sent him to do. Seset begged him to let her try and free him, but Sarcophagus did not want her in danger. Seset could not stand to see him go to return battered again, but she owed him her life and so she stayed, bringing a little life to his old forgotten tomb while she waited for him again.
But all was not well, and Lady Foxbat found them out. During the night, she went to the tomb and captured Seset... and slayed her with Sarcophagus' own sword. With Seset's last breath, she cried- knowing what was to come. Lady Foxbat, with her powers, mummified her, and brought her back just as she had done to many before. And with that Seset was her slave. Seset was distraught as Lady Foxbat dragged her before the one she had grown to love- bare to the world in her death. He went to her, and together they got through the pain of her fresh death. He swore vengance, swore that one day they would be free. But for now, at least they were together- slaves, but together.

Time passed, and Seset and her love kept on, doing the dirty work for another, and spending what time they could together. Until one day Lady Foxbat sent for Seset, and sent her out to retrieve something that had been stolen, saying it was her time. Seset traveled day and night for what seemed to be ages- until she finally found what Lady Foxbat had called the City of lights. This was unlike anything Seset had ever seen- it was a vast city made of a strange metal that glowed and lights danced everywhere. She went into the city, trying to sneak through the shadows as she had always done, as her love had taught her to do- but the small blue lights glowed above her and began to follow her though the sandy streets. As she reached the center of the city, the lights suddenly vanished, and she was left blinded by the sudden darkness. She breathed fast, the rasp of her dead lungs filling the silent air. Suddenly, a cold shock through out her body, and she was out.
When she awoke, she found time had passed, and she could no longer feel the tie of her soul to Lady Foxbat- but the tie to something even more cold and rusty feeling. She was told her new master now owned her soul, the master of the city of light. He was a large Nordic man, rough and grungy- and he had watched over her as they had searched to find the way to own her soul themselves. She was his trophy and slave.
Her soul grew dark and closed as she began to know this new life as his slave- she never spoke and he thought her mute. He grew even more attracted to her, for she was so different from the rough robust women he was used to- and declared her his fiance. The marriage date has never been set, and wont be for some time- but she is claimed as his.
What will happen to Seset? Every night she falls asleep, the dirt of the floor she sleeps upon her only comfort. What has happened to her love, her dear Sarcophagus? Does he think she has finally passed on? Or does he wait for her still? And how much time really passed....
