((Rokumuku's character is mine. The series that I am involving him in-no, don't own Yu-Gi-Oh.)

Being held in his mother's arms as she sang him a lullaby. Poking the occasional lizard that came in the home. Hugging the cat, then putting it down after a few scratches.

These were the earliest memories he had.

~O-o-O-o-O-o-O~

He eyed the cards and studied the artwork carefully. This playing card deck was quite a bargain, he thought. Mom must've loved it and brought it. His mother loved games, whether they were simple or complex- and she was willing to teach her only son how to play them.

He carefully put it on the bedside table and walked to his room. Father would've been home soon anyway- he would not enjoy seeing me in their bedroom. To him, I'm just a mistake that never should have occurred....

He sat on the bed and looked at the ceiling. There was nothing he could ever do make make his father accept him- not even if he could change his pale skin and snowy hair or alter his dual colored eyes; each a different shade of light blue.

He heard a car pulling up in the driveway-his father was home.

The crash of the front door and stomping on the wood floor confirmed one thing- his father was drunk. Fortunately, the footsteps weren't heading for his room.

Thank goodness, if it existed- there were times when the very moment his father got home, he would head for the young lad's room and beaten him until his mother ran in to save him.

Other than the bruises and scrapes he would have to explain away, he had no other problems. He was afraid to tell anyone because then he'd somehow suffer for it.

He held on to the stuffed puppy his mother gave him a few years back. He felt as though the toy was his only friend, his guardian angel, his hero.

He heard shouting-this was from his mother trying to calm his father down and his father protesting and swearing as much as he could.

The young lad wrapped himself in the covers and fell asleep.

~O-o-O-o-O-o-O~

"Mom?" he asked.

It was winter, and usually every morning in the winter, his mother would wake him up and give him a big mug of cocoa to drink. He had slept in a little later than he liked and as soon as he woke up-walked into his parent's bedroom. His mother was still asleep-as of late it was normal, his mother was much more tired than usual. He walked to the right side of the bed and nudged his mother's body.

There was no response.

"Mom? Wake up, please wake up..." he begged, shaking his mother desperately. The young lad became afraid and felt to the floor, frightened and desperate. If his father came in here.....

"Mom, why won't you wake up?" he sobbed, his fragile body shaking.

~O-o-O-o-O-o-O~

Please-please-please let this be a bad dream! he thought, watching as his father threw the games outside the house, as well as the young lad's things. He tried to protest, but the older man pretended not to listen. Eventually, after this last of the things were thrown into the cold night, his father slammed the door and locked it.

The young lad ran to the door and pounded on the door with his fists. "Dad! Let me in! Please!" he yelled. "Please! Please! It's freezing! Dad?! DAD!?!"

Of course, his father didn't hear him.

The neighbors did, however.

~O-o-O-o-O-o-O~

He couldn't believe how nice the next-door neighbors were. They took him in when his stubborn drunkard of a father would not. They took the time to pick up every single of the items outside and put them their house. They gave him a room and gave him warm clothing to wear.

But yet, he felt so...distant. He couldn't find the words to say express his gratitude, or know how to do something to thank them.

Why do I feel this way? he asked himself.

~O-o-O-o-O-o-O~

As he grew older, games dominated the life he had between school and his chores. Complex games and simple games, video games and board games, puzzles, cards- anything that could entertain him.

He liked playing alone. Being around people made him feel trapped and unable to escape. Bullies would taunt him and torment him.

Games were his only comfort. They made him feel as though there were a world he controlled and he lived in.

He didn't really have to study- some things he had researched extensively and recited from memory.

Yet, he felt alone. He needed a friend.

~O-o-O-o-O-o-O~

It was indescribable.

There, in the glass store front was a cardboard display with many boxes next to it. The display depicted a wizard in bizarrely elegant violet armor, standing proud and erect. The boxes were each colored maroon and titled 'Duel Monsters: Spellcaster's Judgement'.

A woman noticed him standing outside. "Hello, can I help you?" she asked. He snapped out of the trance brought on by the impressive display. "No, just looking." he said, hurriedly walking away.

What was he thinking? He couldn't afford a duel deck at this time, not with his meager savings. Sure, he was interested in Duel Monsters, but he didn't have a deck to play with.

Okay, interested was an understatement. He was completely obsessed with Duel Monsters. He loved the artwork on the cards and the unique monsters.

~O-o-O-o-O-o-O~

"I have what?" he asked.

"Honey, it's nothing to worried about. It doesn't mean you're a freak." his 'adoptive' mother said.

"It's not that. I think it explains some of my behavior.....but I'm not sure why anyone told me till now....." he replied. "But this Asperger's thing......it is bad?"

"No, I'm sure it isn't. You just need some guidance is all." she told him.

"But there's some things I don't understand- like make friend or be social." he said. "It's confusing."

"I know, but I love you." she replied.

"I love you, mum." he said, hugging his 'mother' and crying.

~O-o-O-o-O-o-O~

He timidly walked to the back of the class, but was stopped by the teacher. "You-sit in front. I know how you troubled kids like to cause a ruckus when no one is watching." the teacher said.

The lad sat in a vacant seat dejectedly and sighed. The class dragged on for minutes and he had finished his class work ten minutes before class ended.

One of the kids passed him a note. He opened it and read it.

'Dumbarse Albino freak'

The lad didn't bother replying. Instead, he handed the note to the teacher and told who gave him that insult note.

The teacher sent the sender to the vice principal, but the young lad himself had to stay five minutes after lunch for getting out of his seat.

~O-o-O-o-O-o-O~

"Hey, do you want some cards?"

He looked at the other boy. "Huh? Me? T-this isn't a joke, right?" he asked.

"No." the other boy replied nicely. "The reason I asked is because my mom wants me to give up playing Duel Monsters."

"Alright." The lad replied. He was given old and worn deck box which contained what seemed like hundreds of cards. His favorite became 'Magician's Valkria'. The card seemed like a long-lost sibling to him.

~O-o-O-o-O-o-O~

He opened the door of the game shop and walked in. He never been in here before.

"Hello, can I help you?" the store clerk asked.

"Yes, do you still have that spellcaster deck?" he asked. "The one called 'Spellcaster's Judgement'?"

"Yes-in fact, it's the last one for now." she said, handing him a box.

"Thank you." he said, giving her the money.

"Wait-I've seen you before.....were you that guy who was gawking at the display a few months back?" she asked.

"Yeah." he said, slightly embarrassed. "I-I got to go home before my parents get worried."

"Before you leave, can you tell me your name?" she asked curiously.

"Sure." he replied. "It's Rokumuku."

~O-o-O-o-O-o-O~

A new town, a new high school and a chance to make friend and be accepted-hopefully.

Roku gripped the deck box hidden in his jacket. He was great at dueling- in fact, if you asked him what deck you could make, he'd suggest all types of decks- from beat-down decks to spellcaster decks. He also tell you which cards were common or secret rare, and which ones were used in tournaments or against tournament rules.

He took a deep breath and stood up straight. Now was his time to shine.

This time, nothing would stop him.
