Gypsy and the Fishing Lesson

It was a clear, bright day under the sea, where Sea Gypsy was patiently teaching Wavelet the art of fishing. Again."Now pay attention, Wavelet," Gypsy cautioned, then dived in a graceful swoop toward the school of tuna. The silver backed chickens scattered to the four directions, and a few others beside, and yet as the mass of life cleared, there was Gypsy with a fish firmly fixed between her powerful jaws. The Keeto took two vicious chomps, and the tuna was gone.

"You are a lot bigger than I am, you know," Wavelet complained, after failing to come up with his own treat.

"Excuses, excuses," Gypsy rejoined, diving after another floating feast, this time a school of silver fins. This time, however, when she scooped up a morsel, she carted it back to her friend. Thus were the two enjoying their repast beneath the calm waves when suddenly, something with tentacles rose up. Neither was ever sure what precisely it was; they did not remain long enough to find out! Wavelet clasped hold of Gypsy's back as the Keeto sped quickly, in a zigzag pattern, down into a ravine. The creature did not follow.

After a few minutes, the friends crept out of their hiding place, relieved that the coast was clear once more. It was then Wavelet pointed to a dark shadow. "What do you think that is?" He inquired, too timid to swim over on his own.

Gypsy chuckled to herself, and went to investigate. She snuggled and pulled on a few vines, working diligently to clear what seemed to be years of accumulated sea growth until, amazingly, a wooden trunk was revealed.

Wavelet, hovering nearby, whistled. "Well, look at that! Let's open it!"

"When you say 'let's' you really mean I should open it, right?" Gypsy chided. already working to lift the clasp. Wavelet gave a rueful grin, and crowded close to see what treasure they had found. The lid opened slowly....

"What a gyp, Gyp! There is nothing in there!" The little Hydrabat turned away in disgust, disappointed by the lack of treasure.

Gypsy clucked her tongue at him."And that is where you and I differ, my friend. You see only an empty trunk. I see a place to store all the treasures we are going to find. Come, let's go scout for some!" Without waiting for his reply, knowing he would follow as he always did, the Keeto swiftly skimmed along the ravine, eyes bright with the sheer love of life itself.
