Ever since Alazani was a child, he loved the ocean. He spent most of his time on the beach and happily collected shells and caught the creatures that tended to accumulate in the tide pools. In hindsight, he had made himself an easy target through the sheer childlike wonder and obsession alone that followed him into adolescence.

Merana came to him one evening just as he was about to leave and head home for the night. She knew what he desired, presumably because she'd been watching him, and insisted that she could grant him his wish if he helped her. His family had warned him about her in the vaguest sense, but her proposition was so enticing he allowed her to continue. She told him that she needed a few essential components before she would be able to fufill her proposition.

Throwing caution to the wind, he foolishly gathered the items she required with little actual effort. At the time, he didn't quite understand how or why the strangely plentiful items could possibly be useful to the witch, but he was a youngin hopelessly enthralled by the sea and his judgement was incredibly clouded. After tossing all the items in a bag and running back to the seaside, he waded out into the water and presented the ingredients to the woman. Smiling at him, she thanked him, and his brief moment of pride was quickly overtaken by a feeling of dread. She didn't give him much time to ruminate on why.

She pulled him under.

Alazani struggled as hard as he could, but largely due to the fact that he was substantially smaller than her, he stood no chance and he soon blacked out.

He woke up an indeterminate amount of time later, haphazardly just tossed back onto a different stretch of beach like a ragdoll. He was sore, stiff, and incredibly confused. Slowly dragging himself back to his feet, he stumbled toward the water's edge and immediately regretted it. He looked entirely different and he was terrified. He couldn't possibly go back to his family like this! They'd know what happened immediately and he couldn't bear to disappoint them like that. Once he had been able to clear his head and his aches became manageable at best, he made the heartbreaking decision to never show his face on his home island ever again.

Tentatively he made his way into the deeper water and dove under, surprised and pleased to discover that he could easily stay submerged as long as he wished. Setting his sights on the distance, he swam until he discovered a seaside cavern he could use as a new home. From that day forward, he dedicated himself to a life of training himself with the hopes that he could one day get revenge for getting taken advantage of.

Now that he's an adult, his dreams of revenge have lessened significantly due to his realization that it was largely his fault to begin with. However, that isn't to say that he'd hold back should he ever have an encounter with the sea witch again in the future. He still largely lives in seclusion, but he's been known to branch out and make visits to any other places that can be reached via the ocean. He rarely ever goes inland and usually only remains along the coasts of the places he visits. Despite this, he's been able to make good friends and acquaintances that he is incredibly protective of. His friends keep him updated on the goings on of Subeta as a whole and he's done more than his fair share in numerous calls to arms because of them. They often joke that he should make himself a mercenary, but he always says he doesn't require payment.
