There is land that sits on the northernmost point of Astrinet that contains the most brutal of beings. It is covered in razor sharp ice and blinding snow. Those who have traveled to this unforgiving landscape in hopes of charting the area have not made the return trip home. Many think the land is cursed by a adventurer whose name is lost to time. Others believe it is simply the location of the land that makes it treacherous. What they don't know is that a funny little hare had made their home there ages ago and was the sole cause of the harsh land that had been coined "The Hoarfrost Hailstorm" region. Lex Zelig had long forgotten how he had ended up in this part of the world but knew he absolutely hated the company of others. His parents had been annoying. His siblings had been annoying. Every single creature he had came across irritated him to no end. It didn't take long for him to break away from the family and the life he knew growing up. His dream was to find a new home that was nice and quiet. A place that no one would dare venture to. A place that he could live in harmony with the rest of nature.
He had found it by heading north past the lush emerald forests, beyond the glittering beachline and clear water, where the ground turned from soft dirt to hardened ice. The moment he stepped foot here he knew this was the place he called home. Unfortunately Lex was a simple hare and his paws did not have the strength to dig into the ground. He refused to give up. He couldn't give up. Not now. Not after he found home sweet home! Hours had passed as he tried to chip away at the frozen dirt but the only thing he succeeded in was bloodying his poor paws. He slowly came to a stop once the reality of his situation hit him. He felt such unbridled rage. He could just hear the condescending comments his family would be making if they had been watching. Tears began to drip down his face as he hugged himself, quiet sobs began to shift into loud wails. He cried about how unfair it all was. How he was so close to happiness and it had been ripped from him unmercifully. It just wasn't fair! Lex soon felt his consciousness begin to fade. He didn't want to leave the realm, not like this at least. He quietly whimpered and shuddered as he begged for a chance at surviving this ordeal. Soon his body stopped shaking, his voice silent. But death would not take this precious prize today...
It felt like an eternity had passed when Lex felt the urge to open his eyes. He was slow to wake and even slower to move as the brightness of the sun cast it's ever-warm glow on him. It took him some time but he was able to shift onto his feet though the world spun with such ferocity it made him nauseous. A few deep breaths later and he was finally able to fully open his eyes and see the surrounding land. Nothing looked different to him. The ice caps he had passed still remained in place. Not even a fresh layer of snow sat upon the ground despite the clouds threatening to change that in an instant. Lex breathed a deep sigh and decided to find a bit of water to drink as he found his throat was achingly dry. He was met with quite an unexpected surprise when he made his way to the water's edge. His reflection was very different than he remembered! Gone was his dusty brown coat and replaced with a shimmering white. Even his paws had the blood washed from them. He also took note of some strange light purple markings that had appeared on his face, his shoulders and hind legs as well. He was truly mesmerized by the sight. What had happened to him during the long sleep? What caused his body to change in this way? Was his plea answered by some sort of ethereal being? Did some god take pity on him? Regardless of what had transpired, Lex determined he would not let this opportunity go to waste. With newfound strength he bolted back to the hole he had begun digging prior to passing out and started to work at the ground again. This time the frozen dirt peeled away with ease and it no longer seemed to hurt his paws. This only excited him as he picked up the speed and soon had made himself a nice little burrow to live in. A content sigh escaped him as he nestled down within, the storm that had threatened him earlier now passing through. He began to notice that despite feeling like he needed a drink earlier he had absolutely forgotten to take one thanks to being shocked by his changed appearance. This entire time he hadn't felt the need to eat either, it was quite strange. Was he truly dead after all? Surely not, he could feel his heartbeat. He shook his head. It would be something to figure out later. For now he patiently waited for the storm to pass in his new cozy little home.
It had been a few months since Lex had made his way to this icy region. By now he had expanded his little burrow quite a bit as he had discovered some small rabbits that had lingered about in the snow. He didn't know why but they seemed to call to him. They had the same coloring as him too though he was much larger in comparison. They didn't seem to speak either but he didn't mind as he wouldn't dare admit he preferred their company this way. Their numbers had grown massive and Lex found himself often expanding on his little burrow home. It kept him busy and made him felt important though so he was happy to try and help the poor little spirits keep out of the blistering cold.
On one particularly cold day Lex ventured out of his burrow to take survey of the land around his home. As he scanned the area he spotted something strange in the distance. He took out a set of binoculars and narrowed his eyes as he peered through his tool. A creature of some kind? Not just any creature... it was a tiger! He let out a sharp hiss and took off like a speeding bullet toward the newfound enemy, calling upon his little rabbit friends. They all followed diligently after him, ready to help their master in whatever task he had planned for them. It didn't take long for the bunny army to reach the enemy. The tiger had their back turned to them. Lex was the first to make a move, jumping as high as he could, his clawed paws outstretched and ready to draw blood. The tiger's head quickly snapped around, a soft chuckle seeming to escape. With a flick of the wrist, Lex had been knocked clean out of the air and into a snow pile. Audible gasps came from his rabbit friends. Lex huffed and pulled himself out of the snow and told the others to attack. That big cat couldn't fend off all of them at once! He was proven wrong within moments as the tiger easily knocked the others out of the air. No matter what angle they attacked the tiger was far swifter. It was infuriating. After some time had passed Lex finally marched his way to face the tiger head on, his army watching in anticipation.
"Now just who the devil do you think you are?" he inquired.
"The name is Kovuki. Kovu for short. I'm jus' wanderin' through." the tiger quietly replied.
"Bah! Just 'wandering through' my rump! You're a threat!" Lex huffed.
"Sure. Whatever you say. I'll jus' be on my way then." Kovu replied rather bluntly and turned to leave.
"That's right, you better get gone! Stay out of my territory! Or else!" Lex shouted and shook his fist at Kovu.
Kovu simply rolled his eyes and began walking away. Geezers... They're something. Lex looked awfully proud of himself in front of his army, who seemed to cheer for him. They were thrilled he could take down such a scary threat!
From time to time Lex will come across Kovu and start a fight even though the tiger usually isn't interested. Kovu will play along though, perhaps the old man just wants to put on a show for his little spirit friends. It always ends up with the big cat walking away as Kovu has no intention of hurting any of them. He simply wishes to just chillax even if that old hare makes it near impossible sometimes. The pair have fought common threats on occasion such as one of those strange demon dogs that wander through from time to time. Neither one knows why the dogs come around like they do but like clockwork every year they make their grand appearance. Doesn't matter though. Whenever Lex needs a helping hand, Kovu isn't too far behind.
