Jibanyan's name in his past life was Akamaru and he was owned by a girl named Emi who cared for him very deeply. They spent time together most of his life but one day while crossing the street he was hit by a truck. He had lost his memories upon death and the last thing he could remember was that his owner, Emi, called him "lame" for getting hit.
Jibanyan then turned into a vengeful Yo-kai. Because of this he possesses a busy intersection to fight trucks in hopes to get revenge with his signature move "Thousand Paws of Fury!" Deep down he knew that Emi loved him and he wants to prove it by destroying trucks. Though every time he seems to fall short of accomplishing his goal.

The events that actually took place were much different than Jibanyan remembered - while crossing the street, Emi was suppose to be hit by the truck. Akamaru had shoved her out of the way to be killed instead. The last thing he heard was her mumbling something about being lame, but rather, she was talking about herself out in shame of what happened. As Akamaru's spirit ascended from his body, she held him close and cried out.

His life as a yo-kai is now shared with Keita, who is a young boy in elementary school that has an item called "The Yo-kai Watch", which grants him the ability to see the unseen. When Keita accepted and loved Jibanyan, he became his best friend and now lives at the house with him and his butler Yo-kai, Whisper. Jibanyan is Keita's most common summon, though he isn't always helpful in every battle or situation they come across. And sometimes he even gets angry when summoned, Yo-kai have their own lives too!

Jibanyan is lazy, silly and eats too many Chocobars, but he's loyal and kind when he wants to be. He is also obsessed with a band of girls who dress up as cats named NyakB48. (Being a parody of a popular band named AKB48 in Japan.)
