I am a Maltese tiger, or blue tiger, and I live in the Fujian Province of China. I have bluish fur with dark grey stripes.

It’s rumoured that I have relations in Korea and Burma but I’m afraid to leave the location where I am hiding for fear of my life. Others say that I am the last of my kind, that the standers with guns have killed all of my family.

My mum was taken when my two brothers and myself were cubs. Luckily she had hidden us well while she hunted, but one day she didn’t come back. We heard the bang and then footsteps; we huddled together, frightened and watched them carry her away. It was hard, but we managed to fend for ourselves. However the older we got the more food we needed and we had to take more chances when hunting. One of my brothers thought he would have a better chance on his own and left us. We heard he was taken just a few days after. I guess the standers realised there were more of us, we kept hearing them searching. One day we were out hunting; suddenly my brother screamed, I ran to him, his foot was caught in some huge claw thing, he couldn’t move and I couldn’t break it, they were coming again and I ran to hide. Then that awful noise again and my brother stopped screaming. I knew I was now alone.

I had to build my strength and keep myself hidden. It has been a lonely life, sometimes I am lucky enough to come across the orange tigers who live nearby, but they don’t want me to stay with them, I cause them more danger. They say I am the only one they have seen for a long time. But I live in hope, that maybe one day I will find another.
