Eirian stood on the cliff’s edge, leaning heavily against the trunk of a large tree. It is the first night of spring, and the Amari elves are gathering to the Izar Coast to celebrate the beginning of a new year. There they will bath themselves in the Sea of Izar’s bio-luminescent waters and sing to the rising moon in honor of the ones who pasted into starlight and of those yet to be. He could see them all now, riding their kili down the forest path, their mounts opalescent white fur and large curling white antlers glowing faintly in the moon light. They appeared to him as ghost traveling as they were to Ishal, the burial ground of his elven kin. Eirian longed to join them, but his father has other plans for him. The young elf must now travel far from the shimmering coast of his home to the land of the terrin, in search of the King’s sister. Others have searched for her in vain, but the noble wished to earn the old king’s favor and so sends his son on what Eirian feels will be a wild goose chase. The Amari youth looks behind him to see his teacher Cyra, mounted on a kili and holding the reigns of Eirian’s mount Kei. Kei shakes his large head, dislodging an over friendly moon moth from his antlers. Eirian lets out a long sigh and looks one last time at the sea before climbing onto the back of his kili. In his heart he fears that he will never see his home again.
