Once...

I was once young, and naïve. I lived in a large palace, full of beautiful things. I was the most spoiled except for one way... I didn't get attention from my family. Instead I was given jewels, pets, diversions of every sort, the most delicious foods, and even built an oasis. I lounged there every day, staring at the fish, who all seemed to be leading more exciting lives then mine. My favorite things were the silken scarves my father brought home from all the lands he visited in our vast kingdom. I got a companion one day, a beautiful tiger who I named after a poem in a book. He became my truest family, in a way. We often caught bugs in the desert and released them. I read him countless books, scrolls, and texts found from across the world, something he was very fascinated with, and eventually I taught him how to read the script himself. Many people did not believe he actually read it, but I knew differently. I found him later on his own buried among them many nights in the book tent. I often went there just to sleep against him, wrapped in my father's gifted silks. My favorite thing to do was etch glass bottles with intricate designs, and sew together patterns. Had I been a normal person, I probably would have been a maker. Such things were beyond the daughter of an emperor though, so it became a way to pass time only for myself.
