It was like a loud and fast heartbeat. The beat of the music was infectious. And he was happy to see that he wasn't the only one enjoying it. In front of him he could see a lot of people dancing their hearts out. Judging by the amount of people on the floor Julian guessed that the vast majority of the club's patrons were dancing right now. And that made his pride swell immensely since it was his mix they were enjoying.
Timing was an integral part of DJ-ing and Julian was nailing it. He was in the zone right now. Hitting every transition perfectly.
He was definitely grateful to the owner for being willing to give him a shot all those months ago. Julian had been especially keen on working here, in this particular establishment, because it was the hottest gay club for miles. Being able to check guys out while working was a definite plus. On several occasions he'd even had some extra curricular fun with a few of the patrons.


As he was getting down from the raised DJ-booth he was approached by someone. Before even looking he was thinking that he would get lucky tonight. Then he looked and as he did he made sure that disappointment was clear to read on his face.
-"Oh, it's just you." Julian had to raise his voice to be heard over the music. Trent made a little theatrical show of how hurt he was by those words before smiling.
-"Come on. You should get some fresh air." As they were walking out Trent handed him a bottle of water. Julian smiled. Trent was always looking out for him. First time they met he'd defended Julian against some bullies. He had been seven at the time. Trent had just started at his school after moving to the city with his parents. Being two years older than Julian he hadn't always been able to be there for him at school, but had more than made up for that after school pretty much every day.
As they got outside the chilly air made Julian shiver.
-"Here. You should put this on." Trent hung his jacket over his shoulders. Julian turned around and gave him a big smile, and a hug.
-"My hero!" As Julian rested his head on Trent's chest his friend smiled and put his arms around him.
-"You know, my mother asked again." Julian looked up at him.
-"She just won't give up on that, will she?"
-"Can you blame her? I mean, look at us. We're pretty much as close as two people can be. Hell, we've even been intimate at times. No wonder she finds it strange that we're still not a couple." Trent placed a kiss on Julian's forehead.
-"Well, as I've said before, I've just not been ready to settle down yet."
-"Will you ever be?" Julian bit his lower lip.
-"Maybe I am now..." Trent placed a finger under Julian's chin and lifted his head up so that their eyes met.
-"You serious?" Julian smiled and nodded. Then he found himself being kissed lovingly by his best friend. It felt like it lasted an eternity when in reality it was just a few minutes. "What made you change your mind?" Julian shrugged.
-"I think I realized it when you handed me the water bottle."
