Rakover's Notes:As if Zvi doesn’t have enough real life pets, and spirits, and friends who do (nearly) her every bidding, like me, she also carries around this electronic device with a pet made of pixels. She has to feed it and walk it to keep it alive, and I don’t really see the appeal of it. I mean, it’s a basic array of black pixels. Nothing very rewarding or entertaining about it. However, recently I’ve caught her talking to it, and then holding it up to her ear to listen. I asked her what she was doing (one day I’m going to learn to stop asking that), and she said it gives her advice.

“What kind of advice?” I asked nervously.

She held it up to my ear to demonstrate, and I was immediately overwhelmed by a high pitched, teenaged male voice yelling in excitement, “Field Gamepet! Common! Official price: 1,590 sp! Recent price: 1,899 sp! Pink Rad Wireless Controller! Common! Official price -” I pulled away at this point.

“And how is this useful?” I asked in annoyance, rubbing at my ear.

“He knows what to buy, and how much it’s worth,” Zvi said.

“So he knows other things besides gaming systems?”

“Yes - if you ask him about them. He doesn’t get as excited about the things outside of his interests, but he’s all about collections. He’s helping me keep track of my beanbags and plushes, and he lets me know when rare ones go on sale.”

“Great,” I said sarcastically, thinking to myself that if she gets many more beanbags, we’re going to have to get a bigger house.

“He keeps wishlists for me too, and gives me recommendations on what I should get.”

I eyed the device with nothing short of malice now. This is exactly what the child DOES NOT need in her life.

“His name is Ketchum,” she continued, oblivious to my displeasure - and at it’s name, the thing blasts out so loud it makes her hand vibrate:

“GOTTA CATCH ‘EM ALL!”

“Isn’t he great?” she beamed.

I have made a silent vow to smash the thing at the nearest opportunity.
