Card One
Card Two
How I first met her was on strange terms. She came upon me wearing a top hat, blazer, and cane in hand. "Say there, champ", she spoke, "I just came here, and all these critters are cute and all, but something about how devilishly cute you are just enchants me".
I gave her a smirk. A charlie cute. Yea right. I looked at her, and kept my silence. "Do you like cards?", she asked handing out a layer of thin rectangular objects to me. I held them in my hands, looking down and staring at them confused. I had never seen such objects before. Baki chuckled. "I think I already got a name for you, little pal", she spoke in an elated tone, "Mr. Quizzical Card Holder ".
I blushed with embarrassment and looked up at her with round eyes, before I could say anything she had already typed the name out and signed the adoption papers. I sighed and followed her out of the pet adoption facility.
"What's this goody two shoes going to do with me",
I thought to myself, feeling a bit disheartened I ended up with someone so silly.
As I walked behind her, I couldn't help but notice her name tag said "dynocation", and in a high pitched tone I announced, "I'm bored, Dyno!". She stopped walking and stared directly at me. "The names Baki" , she said in a hauntingly almost anger hiding tone. I returned her a straight face, a little frightened by the sudden change. She chuckled and tilted her head to the side. "Don't put on your poker face just yet, little fella! The party hasn't started yet!", she spoke. I calmed. She started walking again, and I followed noticing a brightly colored building we were coming up to. It had a logo with the same rectangular squares on them. Baki spread her arms out in a gesture at the building. "This will be yours one day, my friend!" I was one to not believe her, but as soon as we went in she pulled out some papers and soon enough I was working in the card sales shop just like that. I scanned over all the cards they had. None quite compared to the design of the ones Baki had given me.
Even if those times were fleeting I still remember them fondly.
Her quick persuasion,
got a charlie like me interested
in simple
cards. . .
Card Three
She seemed to have given up on upgrading the position, and went out for the day. . .
Without me. . .
In my solemn state, I laid sadden in my dark delicately designed room.
Baki was one to be ecstatic one moment and brooding the next, and I felt a bit empty after the failures of today and yesterday.
With a knock, and a shuffling, she walked into my room. In her hands was a carved wooden box. She knelt and held it out to me. "Here's a little something to keep you going. Sometimes you gotta do something yourself in order to get a little farther in life", she spoke with a demanding voice, "I think you'll like this". I edged up to her, and gently picked up the box out of her hands. I hesitated before opening it. Inside were beautiful cards, baring black and red patterns. I gasped and smiled. She stood up and tilted her hat. "That item there is rare my friend. cost me about half a million, but you needed one".
And I did what no charlie had done before,
I cried.
Baki shook her head. "Don't be sad, my friend", she spoke softly, "That box is to help you keep those cards of yours in order. Be careful with it and don't break it now". I nodded and gazed up at her. "I will keep it safe in my treasures. I won't ever let it out of my sight.", and with that I gave her a salute. She chuckled and gave me a pat on the head.
Baki is an owner that no charlie asks for, but every charlie needs.
With a rustle of my hair she went off to a new land, a land off subeta, but I know she'll always come back to care for me, but she also knows very well I can care for myself too. She trusts me, and I trust her. These silly cards she has me collecting, seems less of a joke and more of something that I share with her. Together we make a perfect team of pet and owner.
