(this page is a wip)

That wasn't my intent... I had never intended to make us seem like a violent species. But we were provoked and made to fight back... I was one of the few who didn't want to keep being treated like slaves, who saw the worst in the human race in the way they treated us. Unfortunately, despite having sympathizers... things went so very, very wrong. We lost most of our support on the human side and the one in charge of rallying the humans against us allowed herself to be a martyr. They picked us off one by one; it didn't matter the species. Anyone who sympathized with us or spoke up, was eliminated. Enough was enough. But... perhaps I was a little too hasty. I messed things up pretty bad... so now in a desperate race against time and influence, myself and several others of my kind, all with supernatural gifts, have traveled back in time to try to fix things or find a way to come to common ground.

I only hope that by the time we find a means to an end, that we aren't too late again.

We knew of humans before humans knew of us. We were always told to be cautious, to not out ourselves, and to keep our heads and activities to a bare minimum. However, there were some of us that didn't think life was worth living in the shadows, always hiding from what may not even be much of a threat, if any threat at all. I was not one of those, but enough threw caution to the wind after a while and we wound up gaining the attention of humans. We were feline people; anthropomorphic cats, if you will. However, we weren't overly close to what the humans would consider a house cat. We could think for ourselves, we had our own feelings, and could communicate said feelings perfectly. We could understand the humans, and most of us that were younger could talk back to them. Some of our elders had no interest in learning about the naked two-legs that lived above ground, but that was a minority.

Some of the youth of our kind had caused a commotion above ground and wound up leading the humans back to where we lived. We didn't have a large amount of us -- only a couple thousand or so -- but that didn't stop the humans from thinking we were preparing to take over a specific country or, better yet, the world. But, you see, we had no interest in even migrating above ground; at least most of us didn't. We were more at home where it was darker and we could be closer to the earth. Some of us were born with gifts -- what humans may refer to as abilities or super powers. And many of our gifts were empowered by our surroundings. Those of us born with gifts were not treated much differently than those of us without gifts, but we were expected to set a good example for the rest of our community and to put more effort into our lives and making sure things were a better place. Some of these gifts included things like teleportation, levitation, and the ability to breathe or produce fire. The gifts seemed to be getting more common as our kind got older, but not everyone had a gift that had a good, regular use. For example, we had one poor guy who was born with the ability to turn his tail into a broom. We liked where we were and we were lucky in the sense we were allowed to stay where they found us -- but not after the humans added their own security measures and monitoring systems all throughout our community.

We all agreed to be as friendly, kind, and submissive as possible. Sort of like a 'the customer is always right' attitude, only the humans were the customers. If they asked us to do something, we'd comply. Unfortunately for us, certain humans began taking advantage of us not fighting back and began to steal what little resources we did need for ourselves, usually in an attempt to trade it back to us with the intent of getting certain favors from some of us. We began to be treated like slave animals. Less and less of our community was accessible to us, there were tourists who'd pay a good amount to watch us in 'our natural habitat,' which was usually behind protective glass barriers that were installed. We began to be used for mining what was apparently special minerals that the humans couldn't get to because their bodies couldn't handle being around them or something like that. Things quickly turned into something like a prison encampment, where humans with weapons would casually walk through our community and guard the entrances into our communities from the world outside.

Despite how we were treated, none of us cracked. We were being used for the pleasure of human males, much to the dismay of many, and all we could do was stand by and let it happen. There were only a couple thousand of us, and aside from the few hundred of us who had an actually useful gift if we were to get into a fight, we had our claws as our only weapons. It was only a matter of time before one of us would snap though and unfortunately, that one was me. Some human tourists had somehow got past the guards and were trying to film us with their technology, berating and belittling us in every way they could. Saying that we didn't deserve rights, deserved to die like the trash we were, and we were abominations of nature. She went so far as to go to a young one of my kind and start throwing insults at them and their parents, and that's when I lost my cool. I leaped into action, putting myself between the youngling and the human female and her group. My fur was raised, my ears were pinned back, my teeth bared as I hissed as loud as I could at her. It caught her by surprise and she stumbled backwards, falling on her rear and breaking a heel on one of her shoes. I quickly scooped up the youngling, who was just as surprised as the human female and her group, and made my exit. She shouted some obscenity at me, which I ignored. I knew this wasn't going to be the last of things to come.

Word traveled quickly at what I had done. I was expecting backlash, as I was a more prominent member of our community, but instead I was met with much praise. It seemed as though many others had wanted to take action, but were too scared to.
