His eyes peered through the heavily wooded area. His attention locked onto his target. So softly he moved, careful not to make a sound... It was dark, the moon was hardly visible but his eyesight and camouflage were near perfect.
The darkness of the forest was home. He was the eyes and ears that controlled and watched everything. Only a small fraction of the mountainside stayed dark most hours of the day. Far back into the mountains, always cold, everything old and dead. Bunkai was the dark spirit that most creatures on the outskirts feared and respected.
His wings lifted him from the large dead tree he perched on, not a sound was made. His eyes glowed white and within seconds he was ripping his talons into the flesh of another pitiful victim. The soft blanket of white snow that had just fallen melted from the heat of the fresh blood splatter. Slight cackling from the delicate bones being ripped apart somehow echoed into the dark. A devious smile stretched his small beak from side to side. Feathers ruffled and steam lifting from the fresh kill. Red splatter marks could be seen onto the bark of a nearby willow.
