Story

Traveling for miles, in what seems to be endless desert, boredom begins to creep in. Glancing out the window is a neverending supply of sand and er... More sand. Suddenly a billboard pops up! "The Thing? " Over time, more billboards advertise this same interesting title. With your curiosity peaked, you decide to check it out. As you pull up you see a large sign on the building, "The Thing? What is it? " Inside is a bunch of dusty old excavation items cluttered in corners and on shelves. And since the admission fee is cheap, you decide to give it a try. In the center is a large display case and inside a mummified relic. Was it worth the price?

The Thing?

"Congratulations you have inherited uncle Bernie's Museum of wonders!" I rolled my eyes in disbelief. I inherited the junky tourist trap on the outskirts of the Sacred Lands. Packing up, I set off to see if I might be able to sell the place. Driving for what felt like miles, I saw the never-ending supply of billboards. "Meet the thing! The Thing? What is it?" These were my uncle's billboards. I knew I was getting close. Finally I arrive at a small dust heap building with the sign saying, "The Thing. " In the back was my uncle's old trailer that he lived in. On the other side was an abandoned gas station. The place was a dump. Going inside the museum ( if you could call it that) the entrance started in a small shop with "The Thing, " merchandise and several other odd items and souvenirs. At the end of the shop was a sign stating admission fees only 100 sp. "100 sp? " I thought to myself. Pulling out my keys I unlocked the museum entrance. I coughed when a cloud of dust hit my nostrils. As I stepped inside the room was dark. I reached for the light switch and watched the old lights flicker a few times before turning on. The walls were lined with shelves of so-called excavation items. There were cases of old bones and a jar entitled "crypt dust"'. In the center was the main attraction. A large box with a glass case over the top. As peered inside to see the world famous thing, I saw a pile of rocks in the shape of a donadek. Its spikes were taped up pieces of wood. The caption on the case said it was the mummified remains of an ancient donadek. I noticed a small cracked hole on the back of its head. A small jewel lay loose next to its body. I pulled out the gem and inspected it. It seemed to be just a piece of glass. I tossed it in my pocket and left the room. It was late and I would be seeing an agent in the morning to sell the place. I had decided to sleep in my uncle's trailer. I set the glass jewel on the nightstand and curled up in the small bed. The trailer was actually quite comfortable and well cared for. I was thinking I might just keep it and take it off the property. Sometime after midnight, I heard a loud crash that startled me awake. I reached for the light on the nightstand and turned it on. As my eyes adjusted to a small grey object on the floor, I jumped. Sitting right in front of me was the donadek, alive and whimpering. I blinked, and wondered," how was this possible?" I noticed the stone on the nightstand was now back in place on the back of the donadeks head. In its mouth was an envelope. It dropped the letter at my feet and wagged it's tail. Whatever it was seemed friendly, so I began to calm down a bit and opened the letter. It was addressed to me and written by my uncle. Its date was old and worn. It looked as if my uncle wrote it years ago. It read... "To my dearest niece, this may surprise you, but my little thing is quite real and alive. I had found it by accident in some ancient ruins. The stone in its head holds some sort of ancient power I believe came from the oracle herself. Whatever the reason, it is the jewel that brings thing awake at night. Please, care for him as he is my only prized possession. I know you will come to love him as I have. " And... "That is my story on how I got the museum and its property." I said smiling at my crowd looking at the glass case.
