The sun has finally come out after a week of rain and the small town has slowly come back to life outside. Neighbors greet each other and the thick gloom of winter is slowly swept away, to be kept hidden again until the first snowfall. The townsfolk are not the only ones awakening - the small woodland animals, nestled away in the cold, begin to chatter amongst themselves, discussing the coming spring.

The peach trees shiver and sigh, shaking away the lifeless grip of winter. And nestled deep within the gnarled trunk of the ancient peach tree lay a slumbering little bear, a guardian of immortality. The townspeople awaited her eagerly. The children check each morning for the first signs of spring - the delicate pink of the first peach blossom buds. The adults pray to the guardian, whispering sweet dreams and promises of the new tomorrow. Eventually, the immortal guardian stirs - heralding the return of life to the land. For with winter comes death, but spring is immortal.

A soft glow begins to pulsate in the center of her forehead as her eyes begin to open. The peach trees rejoice, for their guardian has awoken. The peach blossoms bloom and she smiles. Spring has begun.
