It was like nothing she had ever seen.
There were instruments playing music on their own.
There were random objects haphazardly floating throughout the room.
Sounds of happiness could be heard, yet no one was there.
There was only one explanation for all this phenomena.
The entire ship was overrun with ghosts!
As DreamAngel watched the chaos before her unfold, she realized that she might have dug herself into quite a deep hole….
It all started when DreamAngel sought to buy a large ship, for she dreamed of sailing the seas. For several months, the nostalgic ontra had been seeking out sailors who might be willing to sell a boat. But DreamAngel’s efforts had proved futile, until one day a reborn donadak approached DreamAngel and asked the ontra if she wanted a sweet deal. Her curiosity piqued, DreamAngel followed the donadak to a large ship docked at a pier. You can imagine the ontra’s exhilaration when the donadak offered to sell the boat to her for a rather low price! DreamAngel accepted the donadak’s offer and signed the papers to obtain ownership of the vessel the very next day.
But right now, DreamAngel’s previous joy was beginning to be replaced with worry and confusion as she observed the ghosts creating chaos on her new ship. The ontra had discovered the ghosts while doing a thorough rundown of the ship to see if any repairs needed to be made to the vessel. DreamAngel had begun hearing some strange noises on the afternoon she had signed the deed to the ship. The ontra had looked around, but to her confusion she hadn’t seen anyone.
But now the strange noises made sense. Her ship was haunted!
For the next few weeks, DreamAngel tried to figure out how to remove the ghosts off her ship. She went to libraries and read books about appeasing spirits as well as exorcism. The ontra also tried to contact the reborn donadak who had sold the ship to DreamAngel in the first place, but alas, it seemed the donadak had disappeared and could not be located.
DreamAngel decided to give offering and gifts to the ghosts to entice them into leaving the ship, mainly because she had heard how spirits had recently attacked Subetans because the spirits had been neglected by the living.
This plan did not work as expected.
While the spirits did enjoy the treats that DreamAngel left for them as she went about her days on the ship, most of them weren’t willing to leave. And DreamAngel found out from the spirits another reason why the ontra’s plan wouldn’t work.
Apparently when the ship was being constructed, the builders had cut down trees from a sacred grove. The locals had warned the builders that damaging or taking anything from this grove was strictly forbidden, but the ship builders ignored the locals’ pleas to show respect. Soon after the ship was completed and began sailing on the seas, the ship’s crew began to notice weird and unexplained occurrences on their voyages. These incidents became more prevalent on the ship as the months and years passed: eerie noises, items appearing that no one recalled taking onto the vessel, and candles mysteriously going out at night.
Ultimately, the ship had been cursed to attract wayward spirits to it as punishment for destroying the trees in the sacred grove. As word about the haunted ship spread, less and less people wanted to come in contact with this vessel due to an unwillingness to deal with irritable spirits. Rumors began to circulate about anyone who sailed on the ship suffering a terrible fate.
It turns out that the reborn donadak who had sold DreamAngel the ship was one of the original builders! She had come under the effects of another curse decades ago. Originally the reborn donadak was a dusk darkonite. When the darkonite was on the ship during a business voyage, she suffered many horrific nightmares as punishment for disturbing the sacred grove. These nightmares nearly drove the darkonite to insanity, and she planned to get off the ship as soon as the ship docked at a port. Sadly, a fierce storm came upon the vessel and the darkonite drowned in the rough waters. The darkonite was reborn as a donadak and cursed to be captain of the ship. The reborn donadak, just as stubborn in death as she’d been in life, decided to make the ghost ship someone else’s problem and sold it to the unsuspecting DreamAngel. DreamAngel was shocked but ultimately took this revelation well.
DreamAngel decided to keep the ship despite its curse and continued to prep the vessel for sea voyages. Eventually, DreamAngel became quite comfortable with most of her spooky shipmates. Many of them were great at conversation and provided a listening ear during those lonely months on ocean voyages. DreamAngel also noticed that some of the ghosts loved to dance and would throw parties to pass the time. Some of the spirits proved themselves useful in doing ship maintenance as well. When DreamAngel mopped the deck, the steam spirits would come along and speed up the deck’s drying process with their steam. When it was time to set off on a voyage, multiple ghosts would possess the anchor to lift it out of the sea. The ghosts would also possess boxes to make loading and unloading cargo a breeze.
True to the spirits’ story, as DreamAngel traveled across the oceans of Subeta she found more and more beings of the afterlife seeking refuge in her ship. The nostalgic ontra allowed the spirits to stay as long as they didn’t cause trouble. Some of the newcomers revealed to DreamAngel the locations of treasure, which DreamAngel sought out with the intention of using to cover any unforeseen expenses.
DreamAngel realized that while her dream to sail the seas had not been what she had originally envisioned, things had turned out for the best in the end.
