Rain tumbled from the skies as droplets of water rapidly hit the window pane. Sunlight slowly shined from behind the darkest of the grey clouds, and as it beamed on to the windows, the bright light was reflected by the tiny rain drops trickling down the windows. I never knew being number one could be so lonesome. As I peered out the window into the distance at the gloomy weather, I caught a glimpse of the warmth of the sunlight on my cheek before the dark grey cloud stole it away from me again. Tear drops slowly started to swell in my eyes as memories of the past filled my mind.

Lonely, the word seemed so much more to me now. Slowly, my feet carried me to the front door as the rain tumbled down even harder than before. My hand slowly reached for the door handle against my will, and begun to twist it slowly. I stood there as the freezing cold wind slowly creaked the door open. I stepped outside on to the cold, wet cement steps as my feet carried me further, closer to the railing. I stood there for what seemed like hours on end in the pouring rain, my feet were seemingly frozen to the cold cement that I stood upon.

Day by day the weather conditions grew much worse, as did the pieces of my heart that slowly deteriorated within my hollow, dark, weak chest. Segments of my heart slowly drifted further and further apart from each other as tears fell heavier from my darkened eyes. Memories of the past kept flooding into my mind like a plague of locusts to a field of wheat. Seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks and months seemed to fly by my lonely self. As I shuffled my feet slowly across the floor, I was brought to a sudden stop by the shiny glow of an objected in the light of the moon. A tear drop fell from my cheek, soaked into the carpet and soon disappeared as I slowly leaned down to place the object into my open hand.

Sometimes in life there are times when you have to move on, and this is one of those times. Tears yet again filled my dark eyes and dripped silently on to the object that lay across my open hands. He was everything to me, no one else might see it, but it's true, he was. There will never be another one quite like him in my life because he was my true best friend and extremely unique. Yet, as I cast my gaze to the horizon, there is still no glimpse or even a sign of his return. Until this day I am still awaiting the call of his voice and his warm embrace. I'll never be able to hear, see or touch him again or even hold him in my arms for what seemed like hours. The object which I had kept in my hands has now been put in its rightful place, right beside my bed where it will stay. The collar, it is the only remembrance I have left of my cat Teddy, my true best friend.
