You stand up, placing the phone into your pocket and head for the door of your room when you hear a sound. Footsteps. You curse under your breath and wait. Listening to the footsteps and trying to figure out who they belong to and what they're doing. After a while they stop. You inhale slowly and wait a little longer. Your hand clenching around the door knob of your room. You decide it's now or never and you open the door slowly. Much to your relief the hallway is dark and all the lights are off in everyone’s room. You can hear everyone’s faint snoring. You exhale shakily, not realising you were holding your breath. You walk slowly down the stairs trying to not wake up the dog or cats and make your way to the front door. Opening it slowly and closing it silently as you leave. You make your way to the train station just a few blocks from where you live. The cold air sends a comforting chill down your spine. You smile to yourself because, for now, even if it's a short while... You're free..
