The Great River where the clan makes their home is also the realm of the River Spirit, Boannan - a goddess of the whispers of the water. She is considered highest in the the clan's pagan worship, and often bestows the strangest of names to the most unlikely cubs. When granting Artaxias the vision of his great-grandchild, Boannan chose the name of a past Tomekeeper to give to the as-yet unborn cub. Though outrightly puzzled as to why Boannan chose such a title, Artaxias relayed the name to the eager Brokenfang who revelled in its title; he pictured a son at his side, a wise tactician and even greater soldier than he himself had been in his youth, a battle-scarred and worthy leader to the River Clan.

But fate as it was intervened; Starspirit birthed a single cub, a daughter, who by Boannan's will now carried the name of a past lowborn, Fierceheart.

Brokenfang was torn between rage and utter embarrassment at being presented with a daughter. He demanded answers from Boannan, of whom did not respond to his threats and fury at being denied his right to a proper heir. Fierceheart had earned her name by the Goddess' will; like Artaxias and his then-lifemate Marshlight had named Wulfgang, his father, Boannan had bestowed Brokenfang's title and now that of his daughter's. There was no going back from a bestowed vision, and acceptance was all Brokenfang was left with. It- sadly- escaped him.

Fierceheart walked very much alone from the time she was weaned. Her father, of whom she loved and respected, showed little in the terms of endearment towards her, and her dear mother simply ushered her away whenever she tried and failed to be what Brokenfang wanted her to be. She sought solace in the outskirts of the clan's beloved riverlands whenever her father's rage endured, watching as the other great warriors and soldiers sneered down upon him for being lumbered with her very being. Her grandmother, Feathermoon, would join her on her walks, teaching her of the world far beyond their borders, and just what her father's proposed destiny entailed for her. Starspirit did her best to raise her cub without the assistance of her lifemate, but between his frightening tirades and physical violence, she felt it better that their daughter stayed well away from the dens.

Fierceheart bore no ill will towards her mother's actions in driving her away, in fact, she quietly did as she was bade, if just to ensure her mother endured no more beatings from her father. Feathermoon would protect her mother for her, as would her dear great-grandsire, Artaxias. Though she did not have any direct contact with her, Boannan kept watch on the growing cub, often leaving her little gifts from the depths of her realm. One of these gifts was a precious river rock, smooth and shiny from centuries of tumbling, flowing waters. Fierceheart wore this gift as a pendant on a crude necklace fashioned from river weed. She wasn't to know the power of this pretty pebble until the time was right.

During one of her father's many tirades during her warrior training, he would injure a baby Pudgeling in his attempt to teach her ferocity. Fierceheart's reaction to her father's deliberate act would be to rake her claws clean across his muzzle, and escape with the wounded bird held gently in her maw. She would spend the next few days well out of sight of her father, nursing the poor creature back to health as best she could. As she attempted to usher the newly-healed Pudgeling back across the river to where it was meant to be, Brokenfang would discover her. In his attempt to finally kill the poor Pudgeling, Fierceheart's true power would become all too apparent.

The aged Kumos never thought Fierceheart would live up to his expectations, nor did he fully understand just why the goddess had bequeathed such a name upon his own child. One moment he was in midair, claws outstretched, maw wide in anticipation of his panicking prey, and in the next...it all went black. He would awaken many days later, bruised and battered, bleeding from many cuts. He recalled attacking the Pudgeling, but nothing further...what had Fierceheart done to him? Artaxias, who loomed over his injured form, stated simply that his daughter had "come of age far too soon".

Boannan's gift - the smooth, shiny rock that Fierceheart wore around her neck - had secretly contained a portion of the goddess' own power. In stopping her father from attacking the Pudgeling, Fierceheart had awakened the soul of the past scribe she had been named after with devastating force. Brokenfang had been thrown into the nearest solid object- in this case, a slab of river rock that jutted from the shallow end of their borderlines- and was instantly knocked senseless. Fierceheart's form took on the deep blue of Boannan's beautiful watery realm and in her markings she now carried the silver strands and golden hues of Boannan's ruling powers of the sky, stars and moon. And in this form she remained, though still very much a young cub, long after carrying her father's prone, limp body back to the clan's hearth. Brokenfang's torment of his only child had led to this- Artaxias stated- and she would remain very much in high regard as Boannan's Chosen.

Brokenfang would recover, albeit slowly, and very much aware of the reverence the clan now held Fierceheart in. But despite her new status as the Goddess' chosen, Fierceheart remained grounded. Brokenfang observed her interactions with her mother, and the rest of their beloved clan leaders, and for the very first time felt the pain of loneliness. In mistreating his cub, he had driven himself away from her. When he was finally faced with exile for his actions, it was the badly mistreated cub, his own child, that sat in front of him, her disgraced parent, and stated to the leadership council that without him and his actions, she would never have become Boannan's Chosen- and for that, she stated, he at least deserved understanding and mercy. When questioned whether or not he deserved exile, at least temporarily, Fierceheart stated simply that she would join him in that exile. He was her father and he had done what he believed was right, as she had done in saving the Pudgeling and injuring him in the process.

Though Artaxias and the council sat on the decision for many moons, perhaps debating the cub's words moreso than the actions of her disgraced sire, Brokenfang and Fierceheart spent their "exile" together as father and daughter. The old Kumos marvelled with newly-felt pride at how his daughter had learned without his guidance and how her gestures of faith and kindness had led her to carry Boannan's gift, as she marvelled at how- without his tumultuous rage and misunderstanding her true purpose- her father could be everything she had wanted and more. It was Brokenfang who announced her as "The Goddess' Chosen" upon their return home, and it was she who announced him as her beloved father and proud Clan warrior.

Her name is Fierceheart.

The daughter of Brokenfang and Starspirit, granddaughter of Feathermoon and Wulfgang, great-granddaughter of River Clan's leader, Artaxias.
