Our journey begins after the end. Earth as we know it no longer exists, but in its place: the remnants of infrastructure and machines. Water is dark, chemical laden, and the air is thick, toxic. Barely any vegetation grows, what does manage to struggle to the surface remains small and stunted. The sun breaks through the heavy clouds for only seconds before being swallowed back up in brown haze, the only true light to be seen in weeks, months, maybe even years. By midday there's just enough light to make out the decayed buildings and cars, packed tightly together, abandoned on now broken streets. Everything is a dull, murky brown color. Nothing moves, for now. The machines arise with the moon.
