Once upon a time there was a boy named Charlie. Charlie was three when he made Biscuit at the Craft-A-Plush store. He gave Biscuit form and a heart, and when he was done, he loved his creation and took it home. They played together all day and had adventures and every night Biscuit was held by Charlie and kept him safe. And so they lived happily ever after.

Or that's how it was supposed to go. For you see, Charlie had a disease and had to visit the doctor and had to be brave, much more so than any boy his age should have to. That's why his parents had let him make Biscuit, to help him be strong. One day they were visiting the hospital Charlie had to be operated on and Biscuit could not go with him. They were separated, and before he knew it, Biscuit was hopelessly lost. He couldn't even find his way back to the hospital. He cried and cried but nobody would help him. He was too small and weak to be heard.

All alone in the world, Biscuit realized that if he wanted to survive long enough to see Charlie again, he would have to grow and become strong. He learned many skills and important lessons about the world. He made himself fingers instead of plushy hooves so he could grasp a needle and strong arms so he could use scissors to cut fabric and built himself new legs that could carry him and all the things he had borrowed from humans.

But it was not enough. He found his way to the hospital, but he was dirty and rugged, and couldn't go in. Every time he went back, he found himself lacking. He was too short to reach door handles. He was scary with parts of his body made of things humans had discarded. Over time, he got better at his craft and built himself a beautiful, strong body that was almost like that of a human, if you ignored the stitching and other small details like that, but still humans found him scary wherever he went.

A masterful tinkerer, Biscuit's nest had grown into a small shop where he fixed and sold toys and other things that filled their owners' lives with happiness. While working on a porcelain Pierrot doll, he one day got the idea of entering the hospital disguised as a happy clown. The hospital staff and all the children loved him, no longer afraid of his strange appearance. At first he went as often as he could to look for Charlie, but as years went by, his hope was starting to wear thin, and he devoted himself to bringing joy to all the other children, thinking that Charlie must have got better after his operation.

Poor Biscuit... It didn't occur to him that Charlie was no longer a child, but a young man. The operation, while a success, had not cured his condition entirely, and he still struggled every day. It was by pure chance that they ran into each other. Biscuit recognized Charlie's remarkably blue eyes immediately, but to his dismay, he felt uncertainty more than relief. Charlie was so big and independent now. Surely he didn't need Biscuit anymore.

Charlie didn't know Biscuit at first, he had changed so much over the years, but something drew him to the mysterious clown nonetheless.

To be continued...
