On the outskirts of town, there lies a tavern with its doors always open to weary travelers and those seeking a drink. The tavern is the only place in town that serves free drinks—but it’s not because the owner is generous or kind of heart. He doesn’t even care much for having customers. The owner, who goes simply by Brewery, only runs his establishment so that he can brew beer to his heart’s content.Brewery is a stout old man with a large belly and an even larger beard. He smells like hops and sweat and stale ale, and he wears a frayed apron that has never seen a washing brush. His eyes are always red-rimmed, though no one knows if it’s from lack of sleep or too much drink. When he isn’t tinkering with one of his many stills or cauldrons, he spends most of his time in the back of the bar, reclining in an armchair and muttering to himself as he sips on a pint or two (or three).Customers who try to strike up a conversation with Brewery quickly find out that they have bitten off more than they can chew. Brewery is known for being friendly, but with a twisted sense of humor. Customers are often hot under the collar when they attempt to chat him up about recipes for his brews—and leave them red in the face after he tells them that their mothers smell like week-old fish carcasses!Even though Brewery is a bit prickly at first, customers can’t help but love him once they get to know him, or at least after they've had several free ales.
