Epi's Bewitching
Beauty Studio

"Oh my gosh, it looks so real!" The girl squealed, head bobbing in the black cushioned chair.

"Thank you, but please stay still- otherwise I'll smudge your rotting cheek." A giggle met Epi's remark as the makeup artist began to put the finishing touches on the zombie stand-in, alone in the makeup studio.

"I can't believe how real it looks! How long have you been doing special effects makeup for?" The girl asked, brushes, paint, and dabs of color working their way around her face in Epi's skilled fingers. The woman shrugged with a slight grin, her bleached blond hair tied behind her head and settled above her bright red dress.

"A while. I just have a lot of practice, and have seen a lot of examples in the trade, then try to emulate." There was a brief pause, Epi now adding touches of peeling 'flesh' to the girls' neck.

"Is this what you do every day? I don't see too many others here…." The girl remarked, causing the woman to shrug once again.

The simple four-person shop was empty aside from the pair; a clear glass wall bordering the outside hallway into the strip mall. Of course her studio was hardly the only one, there were plenty of other vendors to assist the large film productions just next door.

"Actually, it's an as-needed thing. For films and such, of course, but I also am a bartender. When needed, I also do the 'reverse' for some individuals to make them feel better." The makeup artist added, causing the now-'zombified' girl to nod ever so slightly.

"Aaah, that makes sense…." After adding another few finishing touches, the red-dressed artist shooed the 'zombie' out the door.

"Don't worry about the bill, that gets taken care of later!" She called out, gathering her various art implements together.

Once the studio was cleaned up briefly, Epi walked out the door, turning the sign to 'closed' as she made her way down the long strip-mall hallway. It was a simple matter to find the elevator and select the basement level. Once the doors opened, she pressed the basement button three times, then holding the level 'two' button, and the doors closed again.

After a long drop, the doors then opened into a bustling underground hall; vendors casting their wares, and torches lining other shops built into the bedrock. She made her way to the nearest door on her right; a typical tavern setting with wooden stools, stalls, and a large stone bar. Taking her place behind it, Epi settled into a quick rhythm doling out orders and drinks.

To the werewolf went an order of sizzling steak from the kitchen with a strong mead.
To the zombie, a plate of today's special.
To the lich, ice worms with an ancient wine.
And finally, to the patiently waiting mummy, some scarab soufflé.

Epi couldn't help but sigh, undoing her hair and letting it flow, the artificial blond fading to a pure white. It was such a simple spell for the witch…and a relief to finally release.

"Hey, Epi! Another client is here for you!" Her boss, a rather towering werewolf, called and then slid back to the kitchen. He looked like such a brute, yet could waltz and cook the finest meal she had ever tasted…

Her new customer was a very sorrowful-looking vampire, the girl's features drooping as she stared at the floor, black hair around her shoulders.

"Oh, come now. It's not that bad!" Epi remarked with a grin, putting her artists tools down next to her.

"Let me guess, newly turned?" A nod met her question.

"I know, it takes some getting used to. But don't worry- you have friends here, even if you haven't met them yet. But, if you want to go out above ground, especially in the sunlight- I can give you a bit of blush back." She held up a few fingers cautiously

"While it is temporary, maybe it will help you adjust to being down here."

So, she got to work applying blush, hiding the pale skin- as well as applying a thin layer of reflective film. Sunscreen was a stopgap measure; this would last for a good day or two.

Conjuring up a vampire-friendly reflective surface, Epi couldn't help but smile as the girl's eyes dampened in thanks, seeing her blushing face once again.

Both jobs had their rewards, and certainly she loved letting her makeup brushes do their magic.
