When I was 16 years old, I played Subeta as an escape from the real world. I didn't have a clue that the connections I made there - in particular, one very important connection - would absolutely change my life and make it feel like it was worth living. On the 11th of June, 2009, I received an application for a pet I'd zapped and then put up for quick adoption. The app came from a girl my age who lived around 6,000 miles away. Her name was Bo. I remember my first impression was that I thought she seemed nice, but she used too many emoticons (she was worried about how to express tone over the internet). I didn't know it yet, but she would become the love of my life.

It turned out Bo was brilliant. It wasn't just that she was intelligent - we were 16, and she was relatively very smart, but as 16-year-olds, we were still idiots - it was like she had this burning spark of incredible joy, ambition, kindness and honesty inside of her. We became friends, and then we started dating long-distance. We were first able to meet when we were 19 years old, in 2012. Bo had saved up money from taking art commissions and working at her local bakery, and as our reward we spent two months together cuddling, playing Skyrim and falling in love.

Bo and I had to be very, very patient, but it paid off. We lived in different countries for a total of seven years after we got together, and were only able to visit back and forth a few times. In July 2016, I moved to New Zealand to finally live with her. I stayed with her wonderful family for the first six months, before we were able to fully secure my immigration, find a place in the city together and properly start our life as a young couple.

In November of 2016, Bo decorated the house with gold foil stars, put together an enormous photo album cataloguing our relationship and bought me brie cheese and chocolate cake (the quickest way to my heart is definitely through my stomach!) She was ready to ask me to marry her. I was so overwhelmed with emotion that when she got down on one knee, I did too - I had to sit there on the floor with her while I said yes.

On June 11th, 2021, exactly twelve years after our first messages back and forth on Subeta, we were wed in a small ceremony in the local Botanic Gardens. Our life together has only just begun, but being with her has changed me for the better in more ways than I can count.

Online (where I can't stop making tributes to her), I like to represent my wife Bo as a sweet little owlbear. Her favorite Subeta species have always been the birdy ones like Irions, Lains and Festers, so we were both pretty psyched when the Noktoa came out. She's still accidentally locked out of her original Subeta account, but Bo's legacy on the site lives on, and I can still sometimes bug her to log on as sven. I'm so grateful to this silly website for letting me meet such an incredible person, and I hope it sticks around for a long time so I can keep filling her treasure up!
