About

Name: Moxie

Age: 24

Orientation: Homoromantic Homosexual

Occupation: Bard following the College of Valor

Appearance: Wiry and slim, Moxie has a figure meant more for acrobatics and less for strength. She has strange characteristics for a tiefling, with deep sky blue skin evident of an uncommon heritage. Across her forehead and cheeks are several round tattoos also in blue. More typical traits of her tiefling heritage include two curved ram horns that jut from Moxie's forehead, darkening nearer to the tips. She also has a pair of medium-sized bat-like wings that are tattered along the membranes and a tail that ends in a spade shape. Moxie's hair is silver-white, cropped short and spiked up messily, held back by a tied headband. Her eyes are an equally reflective silver hue that fills her entire gaze, glowing softly in low light. Her clothing is often plain, neutral-colored, and easy to move in, though Moxie makes it a point to decorate herself in numerous golden accessories to stand out further. She is never seen without a carved reed flute, her instrument of choice in both song and battle.

Personality: Possessing a smooth, devil-may-care-attitude, Moxie lives in the moment and thrives on excitement. Drawn to crowds, Moxie loves to be the center of attention. Whether it be through raucous practical jokes or livening up a scene with her music, Moxie finds comfort in the thrill and energy of laughter, fun, and sometimes a little bit of danger. She is the type to take a dare without question and to risk it all no matter the outcome. Though Moxie may not be very scholarly, her street-smarts have gotten her far. She has a penchant for sweet-talking and manipulation, not above using her wit and charm to swindle others and make some extra coin or gain favors. This has gotten Moxie into many bad situations, though somehow she always manages to come out ahead and is extremely resilient. Nothing Moxie does is out of true malice, however, and she loathes being seen as a bad person. She simply wants to have a good time and enjoy living an adventurous life.

Even though she is very social, Moxie looks out for herself first and foremost, seeing others as simply a means to an end. She doesn't allow herself to get close to anyone, never having known true friends or allies. Moxie firmly believes that everyone acts on ulterior motives, and that no one has truly good intentions in mind. Most of her peppy attitude is a front to distract herself from negative feelings, trying hard to avoid conflict and emotional moments. She harbors a great deal of bitterness for all of the troubles she has dealt with in her life and uses vices and bad habits as a temporary escape. When things get tough Moxie struggles with her temper and sarcasm, and often leaves upsetting situations completely behind instead of facing them. Moxie has yet to learn that no matter how far she goes, her actions will eventually catch up to her.

Abilities: Moxie knows quite a variety of spells and cantrips that not only work as support for others, but pack a punch on their own. Where she normally uses more illusion and manipulation/charm spells, she has perfected a few force spells to knock enemies back or to immobilize them. Moxie is also very flexible, good at climbing and running short distances to make up for her lack of raw strength. Due to her lineage having blue dragon blood, she is resistant to lightning-based magic and knows one spell equally just as shocking. Despite having wings, however, she cannot fly or even glide - they're too small and more for show.

Story

A tiefling with a bad past is very typical, and Moxie thinks of it as a rather boring story to tell. No amount of song and dance routines can perk up a sob story, so the woman opts to rarely speak of her life. If pressured, she will let on small details like how she is an orphan, seen even among tieflings as a strange occurrence harkening to a lineage with draconic blood. She figures this is why her parents gave her up, either out of fear or shame or disgust (screw them, she often thinks, she never needed them anyway). Other 'boring' details like how she ran away and lived on the streets for much of her youth, stealing or begging for meager scraps are brushed off. Moxie loathes to remember those times, but does have some fond moments that she holds onto that were particularly formative. She was first interested in music and the life of a bard while watching an act in her town's square performed by a traveling guitarist singing grand tales of adventure. Moxie immediately idolized the musician and obsessed over being as amazing as him, dedicating herself to be the most famous bard in the world from then on.

Moxie struggled a lot at first in her new life path. She was from low means, couldn't read or write, and had no instrument to play. Her first was a crude wooden flute, carved by her hand, that she practiced on day in and day out for years. Serendipitously she was heard by a patron outside of a tavern who noticed her potential and took her on as an apprentice at eleven years old. Moxie flourished even more under a tutor, and though she was awful at sheet music and theory could easily learn songs by ear. The addition of magic gave Moxie a sense of strength and purpose that she never knew before, and gave her a great deal of confidence. Things were finally going her way, and the young tiefling felt invincible. That was, until one day her mentor suddenly was gone, packed up and left one morning with no clues as to why. Moxie waited for him to return, and after a week finally left as well. She would never trust easily again after that moment and felt abandoned, betrayed, and truly alone.

Fast-forward some handful of years, and Moxie, continuing to hold onto music as her only source of happiness, made a name for herself. Much of it was a blur filled with too many mistakes to count and things she has tried to forget, but she does remember that things turned sharply for the better once she came across a strange piece of crystal that she won from a fancy looking nobleman at a cheated game of cards. Said crystal made Moxie a great deal more powerful in her spells and unlocked ones she never knew she was capable of. The good fortune wouldn't last, however, as Moxie seemed to be pursued by a new array of enemies. Coming across others who were in the same situation, she stuck by them to use them for protection at first, but gradually came to travel with them as they all learned about a destiny greater than they could have imagined.
