Rooted Together

Gathering the little seedlings together one evening, the flower bush, whom we will affectionately call Mrs. Bush, found her usual place near the meander of a tiny stream. This year's seedlings were a rowdy bunch, constantly getting into all kinds of mischief and always bent on making Mrs. Bush's roots curl in exasperation. It was a wonder how Mrs. Bush could get them seated around her in under an hour with the seedlings running around in circles. She looked at each child, daring them to keep still for a moment so that she could talk to them seriously.

"Alright, you know why you're here, right?" The seedlings shook their leaves, and chirped a chorus of 'no's.

Mrs. Bush stared at each of them warmly, lightly stroking the young leaves of the seedling to her right before clearing her throat. "Fall is upon us."

In her peripheral vision, she spied one particularly naughty child attempting to tickle his neighbor. "Mhm, Fall is upon us," Mrs. Bush repeated in a much larger volume. The rustling leaves of the seedlings finally fell into a hush. "And in this moment, beside this stream, we will learn the importance of standing together. Just as all of us are right now, standing side by side. The changing seasons will test our roots, strength, and ability to support each other."

All but Mrs. Bush exchanged nervous glances between each other, some leaning against each other for support, realizing the seriousness of Mrs. Bush's tone.

"You will need to find the strength to face whatever challenges come your way. It's not just about weathering storms or snow, but about growing together, supporting each other in every moment."

All were listening now with rapt attention, digesting each word uttered. Once restless, these seedlings now stood still. They would be a united front, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead of them.
