Just a Little Snack!
She decided it was time to explore, and see if she could find a way in. First, she walked the perimeter of the building. There were a few windows and doors down at ground level, but nothing appeared to be open. Then she spied a window on the second floor that looked like it was wide open! Hmm how could she get up that high though? Wait there is a fire escape! She ran over to the rail, ran up the stairs, and then walked across a ledge on the side of the building to the open window.
She was in a bedroom, where the owner of the store must live. Out the bedroom door she could see the hallway, and a staircase down to the main floor. As she crept quietly down the stairs she could smell the amazing smell of those cookies growing stronger and stronger. She was so close! She snuck into the main shop area and jumped up onto the table. Before she knew it, she had eaten half a tray of wafer cookies! She knew it was wrong to steal, but the cookies were just so good!
Behind her she heard a shout and a rush of footsteps as the owner of the bakery saw what was happening. He rushed at her, but she was too quick. She went up the stairs, out the window, and down the fire escape, and disappeared into the crowd outside. She made her way home to her alley way and made plans to return the next day. Those wafers were the best thing she had ever eaten!
The next day she arrived and to her dismay her window entrance was now shut. She ran around the building hoping for any way to get in but found nothing. She stared in the window at the cookies and whimpered to herself, knowing she was out of luck. As she started to walk away though a person walked in front of her, opened the door, and walked into the bakery. This was her chance! She slid in before the door could close and was greeted with the amazing smell of desserts. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the only thing that greeted her. There by the door was the baker.
The baker chased her up the stairs, and into the bedroom. This time though there was nowhere to escape. Then there was a yell from downstairs, “Hello! I’d like to buy something!” The baker rushed back downstairs, locking the door behind himself. The little Keeto found herself completely stuck in the room with no way out.
After what seemed like hours the door opened again and in walked the bakery owner. He walked over and sat down on the bed, and gestured to the Keeto, saying “Hi little one, come here, I just want to talk!”
Cautiously, the little Keeto walked over and sat just out of arms reach. The baker continued, “I don’t see a collar, are you all alone?” The Keeto nodded, unsure of what was about to happen. With a smile, the baker said, “You really like my desserts, don’t you?” Again, the Keeto nodded, but with a twinge of a smile this time. The baker reached into his pocket and pulled out a little wafer cookie. “How would you like to stay here and live with me?” he asked. The little Keeto couldn’t believe her ears. Staying in a bakery with all these sweets, and a new owner to boot; that would be a dream come true! She jumped on the baker’s lap and licked him over and over before grabbing the tasty wafer he had offered.
From that day on every customer that visited the store got an extra treat. They got to meet the cute little Keeto named Wafer!
