The darkened sky twinkled with the laughter and love of the billions that YueLao gazed upon. His mouth was wide with joy as he played with their hearts, tying together invisible strings. Despite the happiness that danced within his soul, he shed tears for the ones he had to sever - some were simply not meant to be, after all, and YueLao made mistakes just like any other god on this plane. Overall, though, he felt satisfied with his tasks. Life was not pleasant, but YueLao took it upon himself to make it just a little more tolerable for many.
His gaze turned to two children, already burdened by life's chaos and destruction. He could feel their sadness and their longing for peace, for serenity. The happiness within him froze to a standstill and his heart quivered with anxiety. They, like many, felt at a loss. It was not uncommon to see young children without hope. It was a sad, disgusting world.
But there was something about those two that made him wonder. He noticed their passion and their desire, their singular wills to live stronger than most he has seen. He noticed the young man having trouble staying afloat in the turbulent waves and finding solace only in things most unhealthy for him. YueLao sighed, saddened by the sight. Turning to the young woman, he noticed the screaming within, the demons rushing her and leaving her curled into a deep hole, begging for mercy.
YueLao closed his eyes, taking a deep breath and meditated on the thoughts that rammed through his mind. Upon opening them, he found himself in a modern classroom, complete with an agitated teacher and children hollering. He hushed their voices, attempting to fixate on the two he had been focusing on for the few moments that has passed. Finding them, hearing their internal hopes and dreams send the happiness within him dancing once more. The darkness that loomed over them would remain with them for their whole lives, but in each one, he seen a glimmer of light.
The young woman was rushing to her desk after speaking for a moment to the teacher. He recognized the fear - she was a new student in this educational facility and she felt unwelcomed. The young man, however, took notice, and his heart strings felt a light twang. YueLao's grin returned - it was perfect.
Grasping the young woman's soul, he tied a thin, red string to her very essence, which floated gracefully in the wind behind her. She sat, glancing over at the young man, embarassed by the obvious attention. Chuckling to himself, YueLao took the other end of the string, tying it to the young man's own soul. He knew that, upon feeling the development of young love between the two, that they would have many great travels and adventures. They would experience some of the most daring and troubling things together, but he knew that, no matter the outcome, they could now prevail over their own demons. Two warriors is much better than one.
Returning to his plane, YueLao watched as years flew by. He continued the tying of strings, the severing of others, returning once in a blue moon to observe the two from before. They fought and they struggled, but they laughed and they cried. They had some of the scariest moments, the loneliest, some of the best and unforgettable. But through it all, they had them together.
