She knew, going in, that it wasn't going to be some temporary, quick-fix diet.
This was a lifestyle change, and she was changing for the better. She would never be able to eat the way that she used to again...
And she did it.
She changed the way she ate, and forever altered her perception of food.
She now saw food in numbers, as calories that needed to be counted and carefully tracked.
It required constant discipline, diligence and rigorous honesty, but she did it.
And in the end, it was well worth the struggle. She was happier and healthier. She felt good, she looked good.
She felt like herself again, the way she used to, and everyday she was glad to have done it.
But it was hard, and still is.
Food still consumes her thoughts every day, but for the most part, she is able to retain control.
However, every once in a while, she loosens the reigns on her diet, for a party, dinner out with friends, her birthday...
...and she loses control.
Like a five year old at a birthday party, she becomes overexcited in the presence of food, and inevitably ends up doing the one thing that she is always desperate to avoid...
...she overeats.
In the moment, it feels fantastic, but afterwards she just winds up bloated, nauseous, feeling utterly miserable and desperately ashamed of herself.
She should know better, she should have the common sense and self-control not to eat herself into a stomach-ache like a child!
Sometimes she worries that she is developing a more unhealthy relationship with food than before she started this journery...
But despite all of this, she refuses to give up.
She has come so far, and she doesn't want to go back to where she was.
So, despite these stumbles, she takes a deep breath, picks herself up, dusts herself off and reminds herself that it's just one bad day, and she won't let it destroy her.
And then she embraces the day, a-new, determined to improve her relationship with food.
