I was told about someone's cat who had a litter of kittens; 3 that needed to be adopted soon.
I traveled with someone to their brother's house and sat in his car while watching them play.
There were 3 all black kittens, two of which were playing and honing their pouncing skills.
As I sat in the car, door open, watching, not wanting to disturb playtime, one of the kittens doesn't play.
He looks around, like he's disturbed by all the nonsense, sleepy, then looks up at me, sitting in the car.
He jumps into the car, then into my lap, curls up into a tiny little ball, and goes to sleep.
This little guy was small enough to fit in the palm of my hand.
I knew, at that moment, he was the one. I needed to take him home.

Since I've taken him home, we have been through so much together.
He's been my light in my darkness when I had no other means of comfort.
His little kisses, nuzzles, and cuddles were everything I needed and he knew it.

String was his favorite toy.
He LOVED treats and wet food.
He was always well behaved.
He was a professional mouser, having caught rabbits the same size as him.
Any cats he was around, he always made friends with.
He was black with a teeny tiny, sparse, white patch on his chest and striking yellow eyes.
He was petite for a male cat but had such a big personality.

After 13 wonderful years, my Lotus passed away in my arms on May 19, 2018.
After 4 long months of battling anemia and stomach perforations from eating his litter...
as strong as he was and as much as he wanted to be here with me, he gave up.
I want to immortalize him here for myself.
I will never forget you, my little buttons.
